About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Commercial Underwriting Manager who will manage a team of approximately 7 direct reports that provide full portfolio management of Commercial Banking credits for Emerging Markets, Regional Coverage, Commercial Real Estate and Investor Real Estate transactions for the East and Central Regions. 

This key role advises on the commercial credit structure and decisions commercial credits with concurrent authorities and ideal candidate would have experience underwriting and approving credits within this segment. This position is located in Charlotte, NC and requires in office but offers a flexible schedule. 

In this role, you will:

  • Manage and develop a team who perform credit research activities
  • Review lending decisions for adherence to established guidelines
  • Review and recommend credit decisions exceeding assigned staff lending limits
  • Ensure all loan packages are accurately analyzed and properly documented
  • Identify opportunities for development and improvement in the team functions
  • Implement and monitor tracking and performance mechanisms
  • Ensure all procedures are in compliance with government regulations and Bank policies
  • Make decisions and resolve issues related to business operations under direction of the Underwriting management
  • Interpret and develop processes for workflow within the team
  • Collaborate with team, other departments to resolve credit issues
  • Interact directly with customers
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Underwriting
  • Mentor and guide talent development of direct reports and assist in hiring talent

Required Qualifications, US:

  • 4+ years of underwriting, loan processing, originations, or closing experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 2+ years of Leadership experience

  Desired Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of commercial underwriting experience
  • 4+ credit risk management experience within the middle market / commercial banking space
  • 2+ years of proven people management with direct reports
  • BS/BA degree or higher in accounting, finance, or economics
  • Experience with BLAST, or CreditBridge Workflow systems.
  • Ability to make timely, independent decisions while working in a fast-paced and results-driven environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience working with early talent and ongoing training and development of teams
  • The ability to identify and develop future leaders
  • Previous experience decisioning / approving commercial credit
  • Knowledge and understanding of middle market or commercial business operations
  • Knowledge and understanding of commercial and commercial real estate credit underwriting: loan structuring and closing complex transactions across broad spectrum of product and loan types
  • Knowledge and understanding of credit or portfolio management; delinquency, loss, and risk ratings
  • Ability to gather, organize, and interpret data requirements, budget and team management
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization
  • Ability to work in a fast paced deadline driven environment
  • Experience quickly accessing processes and identifying efficiencies
  • Knowledge and understanding of project and process management with ability to manage and implement all levels of projects to include business partners and leaders
