Lead Compliance Officer

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Compliance Officer on the Fair Lending Compliance team.


In this role, you will:

  • Provide oversight and monitoring of business group risk based compliance programs
  • Maintain compliance risk expertise and consulting for projects and initiatives with moderate to high risk, over multiple business lines
  • Establish, implement and maintain risk standards and programs to drive compliance with federal, state, agency, legal and regulatory and Corporate Policy requirements
  • Oversee the Front Line's execution and challenges appropriately on compliance related decisions
  • Develop, oversee, and provide independent credible challenge to standards with subject matter expertise
  • Provide direction to the business on developing corrective action plans and effectively managing regulatory change
  • Report findings and make recommendations to management and appropriate committees
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and risk control development
  • Receive direction from leaders and exercise independent judgment while developing the knowledge to understand function, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
  • Monitor the reporting, escalation, and timely remediation of issues, deficiencies or regulatory matters regarding compliance risk management
  • Oversee the Front Line's execution and challenges appropriately on compliance related decisions
  • Make decisions and resolve issues to meet business objectives
  • Interpret policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
  • Work with complex business units, rules and regulations on moderate to high risk compliance matters
  • Interface with Audit, Legal, external agencies, and regulatory bodies on risk related topics


Required Qualifications, US:

  • 5+ years of Compliance experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience preparing associated fair lending related reports.
  • Ability to provide support for issues management related activities.
  • Experience collaborating with key fair lending stakeholders.
  • High degree of initiative and strong ability to meet accountabilities with limited direction and oversight.
  • Extensive understanding of the Fair Lending laws and/or the WFC Fair Lending Policy
  • Knowledge and understanding of Share Risk Platform (SHRP) such as reporting and issue management
  • Experience working with complex business and/or special programs; providing compliance and risk expertise and consulting for special projects and initiatives with high risk to identify and mitigate fair lending risk.
  • Experience working with project managers and business partners to design and establish oversight processes for newly developed programs or requirements, and as needed develop and implement oversight and control solutions.
  • Provide applicable regulatory source expertise and maintenance.
  • Monitor status of Fair Lending reviews in progress and those completed along with any associated corrective action.
  • A BS/BA degree or higher with a major in Risk Management
  • An active Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) designation
  • Virtual leadership experience with ability to effectively drive results, provide feedback/direction, and manage and build relationships with leaders and team members in a geographically dispersed team environment
  • Demonstrated consulting and collaborative experience at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet stringent deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment
  • Solid interpersonal skills necessary to interact with front lines of defense, business line management, and regulatory examiners.

  • Hybrid work week - position requires 3 days in office and 2 days work from home
