Transformation, Analytics and Governance Operational Risk Specialist, APAC

About this role

This role reports into the APAC Operational Risk Transformation, Analytics and Governance Leader within the Independent Risk Management function. Responsible for the development and ongoing execution of reporting, analytics and governance routines across the region and this candidate will work cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders and support partners within APAC Operational Risk, the region and globally.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage the development, implementation and monitoring of a risk-based program for APAC with moderate to high risk to identify, assess and mitigate operational risk that arises from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or external events whilst maintaining a balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, systems, and internal controls.
  • Provide operational risk expertise and consulting to the APAC business for projects and initiatives with moderate to high risk. Consult with the business to develop corrective action plans and effectively manage change.
  • Analyze business and system changes to determine impact.
  • Assess operational risk issues, and assign risk ratings consistent with established policy standards.
  • Report findings and draft recommendations to mitigate risk to operational risk and business line management
  • Identify training opportunities. Design and coordinate the development of training materials and deliver training.
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals.
  • Provide oversight of the APAC Operational risk event and losses program, in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate production of periodic operational risk performance reports for more experienced management, including trend research and recommended strategies. Input to the design and implementation of second line risk and control reporting and associated workflow across the region.
  • Assist with the development and execution of information sharing routines across the APAC team. Use knowledge of current key topics to drive reporting routines across the region; status reporting, agenda setting for regional governance forums, input to challenge of front line outputs and the development of independent opinions regarding the risk profile in the region.
  • Coordinate and complete operational risk-related regulatory self-assessments and provide support for regulatory examinations of APAC Entities.
  • Run projects and initiatives in conjunction with the TAG Leader.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both;
  • Or 5+ years of IT systems security, data analytics, business process management or financial services industry experience (including consulting / audit).

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of enterprise risk management framework concepts, including: risk identification, risk appetite and strategy, risk-related decisions, processes and controls, risk analytics and governance.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Ideally, experience with analytics / data management / business intelligence / workflow toolkits (e.g. Excel VBA, SharePoint, Tableau etc.)
  • Good interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills with an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders across the organization.
  • Ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear manner; use data to create powerful presentations (“storyboarding”) to support a point of view in order to gain stakeholder buy-in and support. High attention to detail and accuracy in work outputs.
