Senior Lead - Cloud Data Strategist

Data Management and Insights (DMI) is transforming the way that Wells Fargo uses and manages data. Our work enables Wells Fargo to empower and inform our team members, deliver exceptional experiences for our customers, and meet the elevated expectations of our regulators. The team is responsible for designing the future data environment, defining enterprise data governance and standards, designing oversight, and partnering with technology to operate the data infrastructure for the company. DMI also provides next generation analytic insights to drive business strategies and help meet our commitment to satisfy our customers’ financial needs.

Within DMI, the DMI Enterprise Data Strategy & Simplification team works in partnership with business leaders, Wells Fargo Technology, and other DMI Partners to formulate long range information approaches, frameworks, strategies and plans aligned with Wells Fargo’s mission, strategy, goals, and objectives. As part of this team, the Senior Lead Data Management Analyst will translate Wells Fargo’s data vision into action and drive alignment of initiatives across Wells Fargo to the objectives and requirements set by the Enterprise Data Strategy.  As such, the position will have a unique view into where DMI is leading across all levels of the organization, understanding where we are today in our data maturity, identifying where we have data related opportunities not yet realized, and addressing challenges that need to be remediated to achieve our desired target state.  The leader we are seeking will have Financial Services or Wells Fargo business knowledge, data strategy formulating experience, accomplished data and data management related problem solving skills, ability to define enterprise-grade data solutions/data strategy enablers and accelerators, and exceptional negotiating, and communications skills.  The ideal candidate will have demonstrated collaboration skills to formulate best-in-class data solutions that maximize the value of Wells Fargo’s data to answer complex business questions and encourage business innovation.

As a Senior Lead Data Management Analyst you will …

  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence on data strategy and data governance topics for highly complex business and technical needs

  • Analyze and recommend simplification and rationalization strategies of data as part of target state migration to GCP Cloud (Eg. Teradata to BigQuery migration)

  • Lead the solutioning of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking

  • Evaluate data quality metrics and data quality audits to benchmark the state of data quality

  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions

  • Recommend remediation of process or control gaps that align to management strategy

  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership

  • Represent client in cross-functional groups to develop companywide data governance strategies

  • Partner with groups companywide to coordinate and drive collaboration on solution design and remediation execution

  • Position on-going evolution of the Enterprise Data Strategy and DMI’s Products and Services through analyzing direct and indirect feedback from lines of business, agile product teams, data analysts and scientists, architects, innovation and advanced technologies, coupled with active and on-going assessments of industry trends

  • Advocate for Enterprise Data Strategy and Data Policy adoption. 

  • Partner with executive management across Wells Fargo    to define the business data strategy then create corresponding data business plans and data roadmaps.

  • Initiate improvements to drive effectiveness into data capabilities, policies, procedures and governance;  design proposed changes, socialize with teams/leadership, develop recommendations and drive pilot implementations to realize target state

  • Lead the analysis and resolution of highly complex and unique data and data capability challenges, especially across business data domains

  • Accelerate ability to reach target state.  Identify and recommend opportunities for synergistic investment, eliminate barriers, provide methods and best practices, and suggest speed-to-market innovation.

  • Collaborate to design key performance indicators and maturity metrics to track progress toward target state

  • Be responsible for communicating and representing the Enterprise Data Strategy, principles, frameworks and approaches across the company

Required Qualifications, US:

  • 7+ years of Data Management experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience with Big Data Technologies, Data Warehousing, Data Lakes, or managing Data at Scale on prem and on the cloud

  • 3+ years experience with Public, Private, Hybrid Cloud - preferably Microsoft Azure and/or Google Cloud (GCP)

  • 3+ years of experience with data migration from on prem to the Cloud, preferably GCP

  • Experience with diverse data platforms including Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, Big Query, Hadoop MapR

  • Experience with diverse BI stacks, such as Tableau, Power BI or Looker

  • Experience with analysis and implementation of Cloud-first and Cloud-native strategies

  • Proven record of delivery across organizational lines – ability to influence outcomes at senior levels

  • Experience with analysis and execution within a business and technology function

  • Experience in defining data and/or data management strategy and architecture in an enterprise level environment

  • Experience in defining and charting a maturity path for data management capabilities

  • Experience in data management governance process design

  • Experience establishing and maturing data management metrics programs

  • Successful experience leading data strategy execution including: establishing leadership support, building stakeholder network, forming and collaborating with a team, defining execution roadmaps, establishing a cadence of execution, and operational/organizational process design and transition planning

  • Experience leading corporation through transition of data assets and analytics to the cloud including: Cloud Business Model Definition, outlining Product/Services, operating model, Defining migration strategy and approach, Collaborating on current and target reference architecture, defining a financial cost allocation model, defining user Enablement Strategy, Plan and Approach

  • Experience with risk management and working in highly regulated industries, Financial industry experience preferred

  • Innovative mindset, comfortable in operating in nebulous environments and defining structured approaches

  • Experience in capability maturity assessment methods (preferably in data management capability space)

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate complex material to a diverse audience

  • Preferred:  Experience with top tier consulting firm.
