Compliance Director - Fair Lending Analytics

An essential element of a strong Compliance Management System, this role directs and provides overall strategic management of an enterprise team mandated to detect, quantify, and remediate potential discrimination, model bias, disparate impact, or disparate treatment in decision-making and consumer–impacting practices and models, in connection with consumer financial products or services across Banking and Lending.  Incumbent is responsible to communicate and escalate identified risks through interactions with business heads, Corporate Risk Officers, Control Directors, Compliance Directors and Executives, various Risk and Control Committees, the Risk Modeling Group, Regulators, and the Legal Department. This role formulates an annual risk-based plan, and directs others to successfully execute business practice studies, identify impact/treatment focal points to analyze, formulate/design review requirements, partner with the modeling team on appropriate fair lending statistical methodologies, test customer impacting models for bias - including Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, End User Computing Tools, and Algorithms, conduct file reviews and risk assessments from the results of statistical analyses, and prescribe risk mitigants commensurate with identified risks (e.g., control enhancements, policy or practice changes, model restrictions, additional diagnostic analyses, corrective actions). The Director owns a suite of models and sub-models as statistical tools and must manage them to Corporate Model Risk policies. The Director role reports to the Fair Lending Compliance CRA, and HMDA Director under Responsible Banking Compliance – a Horizontal Compliance Program.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage and lead team activities with the implementation of the companywide compliance program with high-risk and complexity
  • Establish, implement, and maintain risk standards and programs to drive compliance with federal, state, agency, legal and regulatory, and Corporate Policy requirements
  • Own Fair Lending Models used to test business risks and business model bias
  • Provide compliance risk and regulatory expertise for compliance program elements
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and risk control development
  • Lead the reporting, escalation, and timely remediation of issues, deficiencies, or regulatory matters regarding compliance risk management
  • Report on the Compliance Program (Fair Lending Analytics results)  to more experienced compliance leaders, committees, and appropriate business management
  • Make decisions and resolve issues to meet business objectives
  • Interpret policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
  • Collaborate and influence all levels of professionals including managers
  • Build relationships with corporate, business leaders, Legal, Audit, regulators, and industry partners on risk related topics
  • Lead team to achieve objectives

Required Qualifications, US:

  • 8+ years of Compliance experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 4+ years of Management experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Exposure to fair lending regulations or concepts, particularly ECOA, Fair Housing Act, HMDA, UDAAP and other fair lending laws
  • Ability to simultaneously lead multiple projects, assess issues, make quick decisions, implement solutions, and influence change, exercising independent judgment and creative problem-solving techniques
  • Prior exposure to statistical modeling/ knowledge and understanding of statistical analysis
  • Ability to revise and communicate program level documentation
  • Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) preferred
  • Demonstrated Risk/Compliance Management leadership experience
  • Testing knowledge and experience
