About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Operational Accountant within our Wells Fargo Rail Corporation-Commercial Capital group. Learn more about the career areas and lines of business at wellsfargojobs.com.

This position is responsible for a variety of Accounts Payable and Accounts Payable related tax projects including review and approval of all outgoing payments and compliance with established policies and procedures. Must be able to act independently as a strong back up to the Accounts Payable Manager. Strong attention to detail is essential for success in this position. There is extensive customer interaction so excellent communication skills are a must.  


In this role, you will:

  • Code invoices or verify coding to correct accounts, verify invoices for correct approvals.

  • Responsible for review/approval/release of all AP payments

  • Review AP related reports, manage and review vendors on hold, research escheatment obligations and provide various reports to management as directed

  • Handle various inquiries from internal and external customers

  • Review W-9 and W-8 forms from vendors and validate using standard job aids

  • Obtain IRS TIN certifications/Complete OFAC screening for new vendors

  • Verify new supplier creation/collection of required documentation

  • Responsible for various 1099/1042s projects/audits

  • Prepare data for submission of 1099/1042s annual forms

  • Prepare/verify monthly/annual IRS withholding calculations for foreign payments especially Canada and Mexico

  • Review/approve banking detail updates in ACH/Wire templates

  • Compile monthly/quarterly AP/Tax reporting metrics

  • Participate in testing of IT updates and system improvements

  • Organize departmental documents which may involve setting up procedures, scanning, filing, faxing, and storing electronic documents

  • Thorough understanding of all AP processes to enter manual invoices, import invoice files, and process payments

  • Follow all policies and procedures to adhere to all applicable compliance regulations.


Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Operational Accounting experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • 4+ Years of accounts payable experience
  • 2+ Years of Oracle Financials experience
  • Good understanding of General Ledger accounts and basic accounting principles
  • 2+ Years of experience handling W8s/W9s/1099/1042s filings
  • Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with consistent attention to detail due to extensive customer and/or vendor contact.  
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting 
  • Extensive full cycle Accounts Payable and related tax experience.
  • Escheatment experience
