Markets Governance & Strategy Lead, APAC

Position Summary:

Reporting into the region’s Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) for Markets, this newly created Director level position will support the COO in centralizing and running the business’s governance and strategy responsibilities. The principal asset classes covered include FX, Rates, Credit and Asset Backed Finance.

The candidate can be expected to be involved in such topics as coordinating strategic planning exercises, driving client and product reviews, managing head count and financial forecasting processes, preparing committee / board / business updates, coordinating engagements in regional / global / external audits, driving cost exercises across product verticals, legal entities etc..

Success in this role centers on being proactive and detail and quality focused. The incumbent will be an individual contributor and will be expected to autonomously establish close partnerships with all relevant business divisions (inside and outside of Markets) and logistics & control functions (local and global) in order to ensure an effective operating environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Partnering with the desk heads and sales and trading COOs for developing industry / client analyses

  • Coordinating business planning exercises

  • Measuring and tracking the success of strategic projects (financials vs. plans)

  • Maintaining the integrity of head count and financial forecasts

  • Developing and maintaining documentation around the business’s strategic plan

  • Identifying and driving business related strategic cost and operating efficiencies

  • Producing and maintaining consistent committee materials (management and board related)

  • Partnering and maintaining connections with Markets COO / governance / strategy functions globally to ensure consistent plans (strategies, financials, forecasts etc.).

  • Driving preparations for quarterly business reviews (sourcing / documenting key wins, agenda setting, pre-meet walkthroughs etc.)

  • Coordinating the bi-weekly front-to-back (FTB) production meeting including maintaining materials and minutes

  • Coordinating the monthly Markets APAC leadership meeting including maintaining materials and minutes

  • Sourcing and producing ad-hoc regional business performance commentary for regional / global management updates

  • Documenting and maintaining Markets APAC business governance models

  • Driving conduct risk reporting and reviews with the relevant leaders and control / risk partners

  • Coordinating / overseeing internal and external audits and Testing & Validation exercises

  • Monitoring and driving reporting around supervisory and FTB control handshakes between regions and legal entities

  • Maintaining oversight of incoming visitors (seniors desk / business heads, research / strategists) and coordinating visits to maximize business value

  • Developing and maintaining off the shelf Markets APAC business overview materials for internal and external stakeholders (e.g. pitch books, booking models, product capabilities, activity matrices etc.)

  • Preparing and coordinating the junior talent program (i.e. interns) for the Markets APAC business (connecting globally and regionally across workstreams)

  • Running / coordinating special projects raised by the head of Markets APAC and Markets APAC COO


  • University degree with a post graduate degree or other professional designation being advantageous

  • 10+ years of working within or directly for a Markets business

  • Experience in dealing with senior leaders across business divisions and risk and control departments

  • Proactive and disciplined approach to managing periodic responsibilities

  • Intimate knowledge of FICC products, their execution channels and industry trends

  • Experience in sourcing, analyzing and reporting on third party market data

  • Experience in trading, sales and structuring FTB processes and controls with exposure to APAC regulatory regimes

  • Experience in running multiple concurrent projects and playing various roles within them (data analyst, BA, PM etc.)

  • Detail orientated, proactive problem solver with strong numerical, verbal and analytical skills

  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (VBA a plus) and PowerPoint

  • Mandarin / Japanese language skills a plus, but not required
