About the role:

Established in 2016, Wells Fargo Open Banking Gateway solution serves as an enterprise API channel across the company’s business lines. Featuring use cases supporting faster payments and data services. The technology allows wholesale banking customers to integrate Wells Fargo products, services and information into their own digital environments. Such as treasury workstations or enterprise resource planning software. It also allows Wells Fargo retail and business customers to more securely share their financial data with third-party digital applications. While maintaining the privacy of their user credentials and allowing them to discontinue sharing at their discretion. 

On an average monthly, close to 1.5 billion API call volume was generated by retail and small business customers. Requesting to share their financial data with third-party financial apps and data aggregators. With whom the bank has data exchange agreements.

Since 2016, Wells Fargo has entered into 15 data sharing agreements with third parties including Intuit (covering Mint, QuickBooks Online, and TurboTax), Plaid and Xero.

This expanding and constantly growing business solution is in need of a talented and passionate Principal Engineer to mentor and support its upcoming and ongoing initiatives

In this role, you will:

  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
  • Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership 

Required Qualifications:

  • Formally trained or Certified on Software engineer and Architecting. In one or more frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachmam, FEAF, Common Business Model. Preferably a Togaf Certified Professional.
  • Preferably, having trained or certified on Open API designing, Open Digital Architecture Components and BIAN
  • Strong foundation and in-depth knowledge on leading architecture  and design of APIs, solution and Products in the Open banking Space. Such as the PSD2 APIs, Banking-as-a-service API products and APIs
  • Solid foundation in designing and productionizing highly scalable API based systems and solutions.
  • Expert knowledge in portfolio Management and Enterprise Architecture. Has worked on end-to-end solution architecting of large-scale digital transformation projects. Built to handle transaction volumes in billions
  • Provide thought leadership in emerging Open Banking Opportunities and Opportunities of innovation in the space
  • A minimum of 15+ years of experience. With at least 5+ years of experience in architecting and designing Banking-as-a-Service technology solutions. Especially on API design, cloud software development, data storage patterns & schemas, and microservice & serverless oriented architectures.
  • Stays up to trend and can thought lead the team in API way of designing and developing interoperable, scalable, and secure systems.
  • Can identify and define the nonfunctional requirements and clearly articulate risks, issues, challenges around solutions. Also, can influence stakeholders on ways to overcome the challenges.
  • Continuous improvement: Can Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize the performance, reliability and efficiency of APIs. By creating and driving the Tech Debt/Tech Modernization. With the ability to balance the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of design decisions
  • A technology evangelist with an influencer attitude. Who can lead technology initiatives to create a new business outcome. Or accelerate existing business outcomes to operate more efficiently using tech.
  • Can Convert requirements into design and architecture collaterals
  • Can evaluates and advise product teams on latest tech trends
  • Good at communications. By expressing his ideas and solutions with the team. Team(s) will rely on you to lead the architecture and the architectural strategy. A clear expression of the solution and ideas is required. That can help the team and involved stakeholders, in converging towards your ideas
  • Can technically lead and guide the teams from the front. When situation demands
  • Defining and Delivering Open banking Digital transformation Products and Solutions
  • Design and development of API based applications using Java, Spring Boot, Micro services, Public and Private Cloud
  • Applying Design patterns, spring boot patterns, microservice patterns and cloud native design patterns and principals
  • Data modeling on both Relation and No-Sql Databases
  • Implementing highly transactional, scalable and secure applications. As wells defining the mechanisms/ tools/ techniques to monitoring and maintain the application
  • Mentoring/coaching high performing Lead, Senior staff engineers and other Engineers
  • Defining Open API definitions, governance, versioning and management
  • Implementing API Gateway Products
  • Implementing Open API authentication and Authorization mechanisms.
