Wells Fargo is seeking a Commercial Banking Portfolio Manager

In this role, you will:

  • Research complex credit investigations and diverse credit information for loans
  • Identify opportunity for process improvements within scope of responsibilities or functional area
  • Review and identify basic operational assignments that require research, evaluation, and selection of alternatives while exercising independent judgement to guide medium risk deliverables
  • Present recommendations for resolving complex situations and exercise independent judgement while developing expertise in the function, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
  • Collaborate and consult with functional colleagues, internal partners, and stakeholders including internal as well as external customers


Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of Commercial Banking Portfolio Management experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
     

Job Expectations:

  • The role involves supporting the Credit Underwriting and Portfolio Monitoring processes to ensure adherence to applicable credit policies and procedures.
  • This team will provide secondary credit review and detective control of credit policies and associated process-related procedures for the line of business loan portfolio.
  • The role also involves seeking opportunities to recommend process improvement in support of the risk management priorities of the bank.
  • Perform reviews of credit reports prepared by credit underwriting teams and support oversight of related loan data.
  • Review and validate the accuracy in financial analysis for commercial loans  
  • Summarize errors and outline areas of risk from reviewing the credit underwriting details.
  • Accurately identify applicable credit policy exceptions by reviewing the credit documents.
  • Surface and escalate risk often identified from inadequate or failed processes, and error trends.
  • Clarify and credibly challenges in case of ambiguity or deviation to the policy and procedures.
  • Document and synthesize findings based on above mentioned conclusions into a report presented to credit underwriting team.
  • As needed, participate and provide SME expertise for business initiatives.
  • Understand the feedback received from the senior reviewers in the team and implement the same in their day-to-day work.
  • Quality-check the work performed by junior team members and provide appropriate feedback on the same
  • Basic understanding of governance, risk management, and control assessment concepts , and applies this knowledge in day‑to‑day execution.

Desired Qualifications

  • MBA (Finance /Banking), Cost and Management Accountancy, Chartered Accountancy or post- graduation in Economics.
  • 2+ years of overall commercial credit experience across diversified asset classes (includes corporate entities and real estate asset class).
  • Sound knowledge on financial statements for various industries with ability to ascertain trends, ratios and call out key risks when compared to benchmarks (historical and industry performance).
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to read, comprehend and synthesize data regarding borrower performance / market related information from multiple sources.
  • Able to proactively identify potential issues or red flags within the control environment and escalate concerns in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to understand issues end‑to‑end and accurately articulate problems, root causes, and impacts to Operations teams and business stakeholder
  • Hands‑on experience or working knowledge of platforms such as AFS, Loan IQ, LUCAS, CHOICE, Collateral360, nCino, and ICMP is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of data review, remediation, and reconciliation within Commercial with rigorous data investigations conducted to identify, analyze, and resolve discrepancies.
  • In-depth understanding of systems of origin within Commercial Banking, specifically MCSI and Capital Finance, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and alignment across reporting and downstream processes.
  • Strong analytical approach with critical interpretation of regulatory instructions (FR Y-14Q/M) and translated into clearly defined data validation and review requirements, supported by solid understanding of credit products and internal credit policies.
  • Robust understanding of risk rating frameworks and governance processes with structured analysis performed to ensure accurate risk classification and adherence to established control and compliance expectations.
  • Understands audit trail concepts and maintains appropriate documentation and evidence to support internal and external audits, including timely and accurate responses to audit requests.
  • Operates with a strong “One Team” philosophy, collaborating effectively across functions and contributing positively to shared objectives.
  • Intermediary to advanced excel skills would be a plus.
