BSA/AML Compliance Consultant - International Group GTFx Testing Team

Job Description

This position is subject to Dodd-Frank Background Screening Requirements, including successful completion and clearing of a background screen. Applicants are subject to a new screen to comply with Title VII of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act which states that Associated Persons (AP) cannot be subject to statutory disqualification. Under industry regulations, an AP is defined as a team member who solicits or accepts client orders for swaps. Successful candidates must also meet ongoing regulatory requirements including additional screening and are required to report certain incidents.

International & Wholesale Solutions (IWS) Compliance and Operational Risk Management for Global Banking, International Trade Services, and Foreign Exchange/International Treasury Management (GTFx) has an opening for a Compliance Consultant position responsible for conducting first line of defense AML/BSA compliance testing.


The Testing Team is responsible for managing the development, enhancement, implementation and execution of a risk-based testing program covering the Global Banking, Foreign Exchange, Trade Services, Wholesale Business Solutions, and Wholesale Crossell & Analytics business lines to ensure compliance with U.S. laws, regulations, and Wells Fargo policies and standards.

Key responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

  • Working with IWS business lines to provide AML/BSA compliance and risk expertise.
  • Designing and developing testing strategies and methodologies in accordance with RCRM Policy and RCRM Procedures and guidance from Wholesale Operational Risk and Compliance (WORC).
  • Completing review documentation that evaluates the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, and internal controls while maintaining professional independence throughout evaluation.
  • Reporting findings and providing recommendations to the business line.
  • Conducting expanded review activities (non-CRAS+ reviews) to ensure reviews meet defined objectives.
  • Participating on internal forums, such as the monthly IG CORM GTFx CRAS+ conference call.
  • Completing issue validation activities that are completed in accordance with RCRM Policy, RCRM Procedures, and Wholesale Issue Management Standards.
  • Consulting with relevant stakeholders, such as WORC Testing & Validation, WORC FCRC and FCRM, to obtain guidance required to complete review activities.
  • Providing compliance expertise and potential solutions to identified gaps and associated risks to the business line.

They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following, and adhering to all applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both
  • 2+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: additional compliance, additional operational risk management, IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience; or a BS/BA degree or higher in business or a related field

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization

Other Desired Qualifications
  • 4-year degree or equivalent
  • Proficient in AML/BSA/OFAC rules and regulations, as well as knowledge in financial crimes risk management.
  • Hands on experience with operational risk systems
  • Working knowledge of audit principles including sampling methods, documentation standards, and results reporting
  • Demonstrated understanding of regulatory compliance and/or risk management policies and procedures
  • Ability to multi-task between multiple and ongoing responsibilities and assignments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Financial services compliance and/or audit experience
  • Ability to meet deliverables in tight timeframes
  • Exhibits flexibility and adaptability under challenging deadlines and time pressures
  • Demonstrated independent judgment and prudent risk mitigation skills
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Ability to travel approximately 10%
  • Advanced degree
  • Audit-related certification (such as CPA, CIA)
  • Additional Compliance & Operational Risk certifications (such as CRCM, CAMS or CFCS)
  • Working knowledge of IG organizational structure
  • Experience with Wells Fargo controls tools such as CRAS+, SHRP, ORIS
  • Understanding of Wells Fargo’s policies and tools
