About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a VP, Control Risk Governance Lead, internally known as Lead Control Management Officer within our Control Management team in our Toronto office.

The Control Management team serves as the front line risk management organization within Commercial Banking and Corporate Investment banking supporting the businesses with risk strategy, implementation, and execution.  The team is responsible to identify and assess risks, design and implement controls, and execute and monitor the controls to ensure they are working effectively to manage risk across the businesses.  Control interfaces with Independent Risk Management and Audit to drive comprehensive and consistent implementation of regulatory and corporate risk policies and programs across the businesses.

In this role, you will:

  • Assist in the execution of the risk measurement program requirements outlined in policy and procedures.

  • Provide risk governance support for Risk and Control Committees and other Risk Forums.

  • Engage Control Team members and Independent Risk Management partners for metric triggers, root cause analysis, and action plans for monthly and quarterly metric trigger responses.

  • Enter all required metric data on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis per Risk Measurement Program and system requirements.

  • Partner with risk type Control team partners to understand data inputs, risk drivers, and desired output

  • Provide quality check on risk measurement submissions from control team

  • Aggregate, evaluate, and report results

  • Contributes in producing quarterly reports and presentation deck for America’s Risk Committee.

  • Assists in analyzing data to produce insightful intelligence on risk trends and emerging risks

  • Participate in identifying, assessing, managing, and mitigating current and emerging risk exposures within Control Management functional area

  • Establish collaborative relationships across the organization with key stakeholders to drive awareness and mitigation

  • Assist in the monitoring, measuring and development of risk monitoring and reporting processes and controls

  • Provide input in the development of enterprise-wide and region-specific risk programs and policies in coordination with Control Risk program leaders and IRM

  • Promote and maintain a risk culture that encourages an informed, measured, disciplined and balanced approach to understand and managing business process risk and controls

  • Support other governance/oversight reporting routines related to Issues Management

  • Promote a strong risk culture and provide leadership for business requirements

  • Other duties as assigned as they relate to the scope of the position and goals of the department

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Risk Management or Control Management experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of risk identification, risk appetite and strategy, risk related decisions, processes and controls, risk analytics and governance

  • Experience and business acumen in the financial services industry, products and regulatory environment

  • Experience in Governance, committee reporting, administration is an asset

  • Capable of working with large, disparate data sources to consolidate into concise, easy to understand, actionable metrics

  • Strong analytical ability to identify risks and confidently raise issues, escalate early, and engage in constructive credible challenge and will do so independently if necessary

  • Working knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) concepts and policies across risk types (regulatory, financial crimes, credit, operational, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and analyze issues when you collect data from multiple sources and know how to ask the right questions to obtain the information needed to size up a situation properly

  • Ethical integrity and demonstrated ability to assess and determine when to raise concerns and escalate

  • Dedicated, enthusiastic, driven and performance-oriented; possesses a strong work ethic and results orientation

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to process multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Strong use of applications including: Excel, Word, Power point

  • Ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear manner

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Discretion, attention to detail and confidentiality are essential to the role

Accordingly, critical success factors will include the ability to develop partnerships with many business and functional areas, provide insight into the economic climate and related market developments and identify trends which may present opportunities or reflect gaps in the Company’s risk management execution/direction.
