About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Operational Risk Officer, VP in our Toronto office within the independent risk management (IRM), second line of defense.  The role will have the mandate of implementing a consistent, collaborative, and sustainable approach for their coverage area horizontally across the Region (Canada and Latin America) and applicable legal entities.

Reporting into the Americas Head of Operational Risk, the Lead Operational Risk Officer will be responsible for the Americas view of current and emerging risks for their assigned Operational Risk coverage area as the incumbent will be responsible for aggregating oversight information for their portfolio and also more broadly as part of the Independent Operational Risk Assessment, Enterprise Risk Identification and Assessment, and Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) oversight routines. The Lead Officer will provide RCSA Operational Risk support and will work cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders and support partners within Americas Operational Risk, the region and globally.

In this role, you will:

  • Monitor risk-based programs to identify, assess, and mitigate any operational risk that arises from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or external events

  • Maintain a balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency

  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, systems, and internal controls

  • Provide operational risk expertise and consulting to the frontline for initiatives with moderate/high risk, generally spanning multiple business lines

  • Consult with the frontline to develop corrective action plans and effectively manage change

  • Identify training opportunities for the assigned coverage area

  • Develop risk data and analytics across the region (with the ability to aggregate information at Line of Business, legal entity, risk type and regional level) to drive development of risk profile for the region.

  • Develop and execute information sharing routines across the Americas team. Use knowledge of current key topics to drive reporting routines across the region; status reporting, agenda setting for regional governance routines, input to challenge of front line outputs and the development of independent opinions regarding the risk profile in the region.

  • Provide support for Operational Risk related audits and exams.

  • Provide RCSA oversight support for the Americas Operational Risk team and guidance externally to the broader regional IRM/Front-line partners (as needed)

  • Support the Americas Operational Risk team in the development, implementation and monitoring of a risk-based program for Americas to identify, assess and mitigate operational risk while maintaining a balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Operational Risk experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • Strong practical experience in executing and providing oversight for RCSA

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills with an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders across the organization, which includes virtual, matrixed leadership experience

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Corporate/Commercial lending processes

  • Experience working in a large multi-national with a US parent and licensed legal entities internationally.

  • Proven ability to drive and influence successful execution of change initiatives with minimal oversight.

  • Ability to influence and consult strategically across a large organization and with various levels of leadership /stakeholders

  • Meaningful knowledge of enterprise risk management framework, including: risk identification, risk appetite and strategy, risk-related decisions, processes and controls, risk analytics and governance

  • Strong understanding of corporate / business policies, and programs

  • Proven leadership skills to drive alignment across stakeholder groups to develop and deliver repeatable end to end risk management solutions

  • Proven ability to scope, manage and execute complex risk management initiatives with high quality and timely delivery

  • Flexibility and business savvy to navigate a complex, highly-matrixed organization

  • Experience providing reporting and updates to senior-level management
