AI Product Owner – Intelligent Automation

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking an AI Product Owner (Lead Digital Product Manager) to join the Consumer Banking and Lending Product Team.

  • This role sits within the Consumer Intelligent Automation team, under the Operational Excellence organization in the Chief Administrative Office and plays a critical role in shaping and delivering AI‑powered workflow and automation solutions at enterprise scale.
  • The Consumer Intelligent Automation (CIA) team designs, builds, and scales automation and AI‑enabled products that eliminate manual work, improve operational efficiency, and reduce risk across the enterprise.
  • The team delivers value by combining process automation, workflow orchestration, and AI capabilities—including generative and agentic AI—into reusable, governed solutions adopted across business lines. CIA focuses on solving real business problems at scale, not one‑off automations, or experiments.
  • CIA operates as a product‑led organization, owning both discovery and delivery to ensure AI investments are outcome‑driven, measurable, and sustainable
  • The AI Product Owner (Discovery + Delivery) reports to the Head of Consumer Intelligent Automation supporting Consumer Banking and Lending. This role partners closely with Product and Technology teams to deliver measurable business value through AI initiatives in regulated environments.
  • Working in close partnership with the CIA Product Discovery Leader, this role helps shape AI strategy, reusable patterns, and core capabilities. While strategy and discovery direction are shared, this role owns AI initiatives end‑to‑end—from discovery and framing through backlog ownership and delivery execution.
  • The AI Product Owner is accountable for translating ambiguous AI opportunities into clear business outcomes, decomposing complex AI initiatives into sequenced, shippable releases of value, and driving work through Definition of Ready (DOR) into predictable sprint delivery.
  • This role fills a critical gap between AI discovery and scalable delivery—bringing disciplined product ownership to ensure AI solutions move beyond concept and are embedded into real operational workflows.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the development and execution of complex digital business plans, programs and initiatives which have impact across the enterprise with broad impact
  • Act as key participant in large-scale planning
  • Review and analyze complex digital strategy for product/functionality/experience area
  • Influence digital strategy for the business line requiring in-depth evaluation of multiple factors including intangibles or unprecedented factors
  • Make decisions in digital strategy for product/functionality/experience area requiring strong understanding of the business, policies, procedures, and/or compliance requirements
  • Lead a broad team of digital professionals to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
  • Strategically collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and mid-level to senior managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
  • Potentially lead projects, teams or serve as a peer mentor

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of digital product management experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience leading digital products built on middleware, APIs, and microservice‑based architectures.
  • Strong understanding of data management practices, including data quality standards, data movement, and enterprise data integrations.
  • Experience partnering with or operating in risk‑managed, regulated environments, including audit, business controls, or compliance.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing and offer management platforms, such as Adobe (AEM, Target, Audience) or comparable enterprise solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with product technology, engineering, and architecture partners to deliver scalable solutions.
  • Experience defining and managing product roadmaps, epics, and backlogs using agile or hybrid delivery methodologies (e.g., Scrum, SAFE).
  • Proficiency with product and delivery management tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Exposure to AI‑enabled product capabilities or tools (including Copilot or similar technologies) is a plus.
  • Experience working across authenticated digital channels (web and mobile), supporting personalization, experimentation, or optimization efforts.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to influence without authority.
  • Enterprise stakeholder leadership: Ability to partner effectively across Product, Technology, and Risk in regulated environments
  • Experience designing agentic workflows where AI executes multi‑step processes with human‑in‑the‑loop judgment
  • Ability to re‑architect end‑to‑end business processes into AI‑assisted and automated decision points (not task‑level automation)
  • Experience defining autonomy vs. control, including exception handling and human review
  • Familiarity with the AI delivery lifecycle (prompting, evaluation, HITL, iteration)
  • Background in intelligent automation, reusable platforms/patterns, and outcome‑based metrics/OKRs
  • AI product ownership: Proven ability to take ambiguous AI opportunities from discovery and framing through backlog ownership and delivery execution
  • Incremental delivery discipline: Strong ability to decompose complex AI initiatives into sequenced, shippable releases of value
  • Agile execution fluency: Hands‑on experience preparing work for sprints and driving iterative delivery
  • Applied AI experience: Direct involvement in AI‑enabled initiatives (GenAI, ML, agentic workflows, intelligent automation), with enough depth to make delivery tradeoffs across UX, models, testing, and rollout
