Lead Infrastructure Engineer - Email Engineering

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Infrastructure Engineer.


In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex initiatives to develop infrastructure to provide solutions for business applications

  • Participate in various projects intended to continually improve or upgrade the infrastructure

  • Evaluate internal and external software solutions which could be leveraged to meet target state architecture goals

  • Review and analyze high impact outages to ensure the proper processes and procedures are in place to avoid problems in the future

  • Design, build, deploy and maintain infrastructure solutions through collaborative efforts with the team and third party vendors

  • Design, code, test, debug and document programs using Agile development practices

  • Make decisions in technical designs, implementation plans and identify project risks and resource requirements

  • Direct the daily risk and control flow of operations, focusing on policies, procedures and work standards to ensure success

  • Recommend courses of action to maintain cost effectiveness and achieve results

  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals Interact with customer and vendor


Desired Qualification:

  • Shape future-state enterprise messaging architecture while driving cloud and hybrid strategies
  • Strengthen organizational security, compliance posture, and ensure highly available Hybrid Exchange services
  • Serve as a senior member of the Enterprise Email Engineering team managing SMTP backbone and secure email platforms
  • Own and operate Proofpoint and Zix Secure Email platforms with hands-on administration
  • Perform capacity planning, infrastructure upgrades, and patch management
  • Coordinate vulnerability remediation with Information Security teams
  • Lead platform upgrades using structured change management and testing processes
  • Apply deep expertise in mail routing, SMTP architecture, and secure email strategy
  • Provide Level 4 escalation support for complex production issues
  • Drive improvements in platform stability, performance, and scalability aligned with enterprise standards
  • Collaborate with vendors for maintenance support, implementations, and configurations
  • Deliver and maintain resilient, secure email infrastructure with Proofpoint MTA expertise (mandatory) and secure email platform experience (preferred)

Job Expectations:

  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise email and messaging engineering
  • Strong hands‑on expertise with Microsoft Exchange hybrid architectures
  • Deep experience with mail routing concepts
  • Hands‑on experience with Proofpoint MTAs (mandatory)
  • Strong understanding of: SMTP, DNS, LDAP, SPF, DKIM, DMARC
  • Experience with SMTP, Milters, Sendmail, Postfix, openldap, Proofpoint MTAs, Zix Gateways.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including: IPv4 / IPv6, TCP / UDP, NAT, PAT, ACLs, VLANs
  • Proven experience with platform lifecycle management (patching, upgrades, capacity planning, decommissioning)
  • Strong incident, problem, and change management experience (ITIL‑aligned)
  • Experience providing Level 4 escalation support in production environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA) skills
  • Excellent communication skills for technical and leadership audiences
  • Ability to collaborate across infrastructure, security, compliance, and application teams
  • Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and usage of GraphAPI
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Experience working in large, regulated enterprises (50,000+ users preferred).
