About this role:

  • Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer.
  • We are seeking a Lead AI Engineer to design and build advanced agentic AI-driven automation systems for enterprise infrastructure and platform engineering. This role will focus on transforming traditional infrastructure workflows into intelligent, autonomous systems powered by large language models (LLMs), AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, and modern automation frameworks. The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to collaborate across platforms, infrastructure, and application teams.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
  • Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines
  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs
  • Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors
  • Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
  • Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals
  • Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Job Expectations:

  • Lead complex initiatives to design and develop agentic AI-based automation systems for infrastructure transformation and lifecycle management
  • Build and maintain self-service platform capabilities that empower developers to manage infrastructure independently through APIs and interfaces
  • Develop automation scripts and workflows using Python to support provisioning, configuration, governance, and operational efficiency
  • Develop robust APIs using Python to expose automation, configuration, and infrastructure services
  • Integrate AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and LLM frameworks into engineering workflows
  • Define and enforce AI standards and reusable patterns for Infrastructure Transformation that promote consistency, security, and scalability
  • Collaborate with platform, security, and application teams to align automation solutions with business and engineering goals
  • Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, and mentor engineers on best practices
  • Continuously evaluate and improve performance, reliability, and scalability of automation systems

Additional Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, with strong focus in AI/ML systems
  • 3+ years of experience implementing GitOps practices using GitHub, GitHub Actions or similar tools
  • 3+ years of experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and Python and/or NodeJS automation systems
  • 5+ years of experience in designing large-scale modular platforms/systems.
  • Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot
  • 1+ years of experience in building and deploying AI Agents
  • Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum or Kanban)


Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, ArgoCD, or similar orchestration tools
  • Familiarity with developer platforms and service catalogs
  • Knowledge of observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK
  • Experience with immutable infrastructure and secure image management
  • Experience working in hybrid or cloud-native environments
  • Experience using AI tools to accelerate development, testing, and debugging
  • Strong documentation and mentoring skills
  • A developer-first mindset with a passion for improving engineering productivity
