Senior Infrastructure Engineer –Data Center

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to lead enterprise data center infrastructure lifecycle management and decommissioning across virtual and physical assets. This role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient retirement of infrastructure aligned with data center exit programs.

The primary focus is on decommissioning VMs, physical servers, storage, network devices, and rack-level assets, with additional support for data center migration and infrastructure hygiene.


In this role, you will:

  • Lead execution of infrastructure decommissioning across VMs, physical servers, storage, network devices, and rack-level assets.

  • Drive the end-to-end decommission lifecycle: planning, validation, change execution, logical shutdown, power-down, physical removal, and closure.

  • Validate application and infrastructure dependencies (database, storage, network, backup, monitoring) to minimize risk and ensure zero business impact.

  • Coordinate Logical Power Down (LPD), VM deletion, backup/monitoring removal, and physical decommission activities with cross-functional teams.

  • Partner with application, OS, database, storage, network, facilities/CPG, and vendor teams for seamless execution.

  • Manage ServiceNow changes and tasks for decommission activities, including approvals, execution tracking, and closure.

  • Ensure accurate CMDB and asset updates, including CI retirement, asset disposal, and IP/DNS cleanup.

  • Coordinate vendor and site activities for hardware removal, secure disposal, and data center cleanup.

  • Support data center migration activities, including pre/post validation, lift-and-shift coordination, and transition of migrated assets into decommission workflows.

  • Maintain infrastructure lifecycle hygiene by identifying and cleaning up inactive or obsolete assets.

  • Track and report progress, risks, and SLA adherence through dashboards and stakeholder updates.

  • Identify risks, resolve blockers, and drive process improvements and automation.

  • Lead or support incident resolution during decommission or migration activities.

  • Demonstrate strong communication and collaboration, leading execution calls and engaging global stakeholders.


Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Solutions experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in data center infrastructure decommissioning (VMs, physical servers, storage, network devices).

  • Understanding of infrastructure dependencies across application, database, storage, network, and monitoring layers.

  • Hands-on experience with ServiceNow (Change, CMDB, Asset Management).

  • Experience supporting data center migration programs (V2V, lift-and-shift, storage/network migration).

  • Experience working with data center operations, facilities/CPG, and vendors.

  • Knowledge of asset lifecycle, compliance, audit, and secure disposal processes.

  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and collaboration skills.


Job Expectations:

  • Primary focus on Data Center Infrastructure Decommissioning with support for migration and lifecycle hygiene.

  • Strong expertise in decommissioning: Virtual machines, Physical servers, Storage and SAN/NAS, Network devices, Rack-level and data center assets

  • Ability to execute: Logical Power Down (LPD), VM deletion and cleanup, Backup/monitoring removal, Network and storage dependency clearance, Physical power-down and asset removal, IP/DNS cleanup and asset retirement

  • Support data center migration activities, including validation, coordination, and post-migration decommission.

  • Ensure CMDB accuracy, asset reconciliation, and compliance documentation.

  • Track and close decommission milestones within SLA.

  • Develop reports, metrics, and dashboards for progress and governance.

  • Strong communication: Lead execution/bridge calls, Provide clear stakeholder updates, Escalate risks effectively

  • Strong collaboration across infrastructure, application, and business teams.

  • Ability to operate in high-risk change windows and DC exit environments.

  • Continuously improve decommission efficiency, lifecycle hygiene, and automation.
