Wells Fargo is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of software engineers responsible for designing, developing, and supporting enterprise-scale applications and platforms. This leader will drive delivery excellence while building high-performing engineering teams that leverage modern software engineering practices, cloud-native architectures, and Generative AI capabilities to accelerate business outcomes.
The ideal candidate combines strong people leadership with deep technical expertise across multiple technology stacks, including Java, .NET, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and AI-powered solutions.
In this role, you will:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers across multiple products and technology platforms.
- Build a high-performing engineering culture focused on accountability, continuous learning, innovation, and operational excellence.
- Provide technical and strategic leadership for enterprise-scale applications built using Java, Spring Boot, .NET Core, microservices, and cloud-native technologies.
- Drive architecture and design decisions while ensuring solutions meet security, scalability, reliability, resiliency, performance, and maintainability requirements.
- Lead the design and implementation of event-driven and asynchronous systems using Kafka and related messaging technologies.
- Establish engineering standards, software development lifecycle practices, and quality controls across the organization.
- Partner with Product Managers, Architects, Business Leaders, and Technology Leaders to define roadmaps and deliver business priorities.
- Champion modernization initiatives, including application rationalization, cloud adoption, API enablement, and platform transformation.
- Drive adoption of Generative AI and Agentic AI capabilities to improve engineering productivity, operational efficiency, and customer experience.
- Lead the design and governance of AI-enabled systems, including agent orchestration, tool integration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), MCP integrations, and autonomous workflow capabilities.
- Ensure all solutions comply with Wells Fargo security, risk management, architecture, and regulatory requirements.
- Remove organizational and technical impediments impacting delivery and team effectiveness.
- Provide leadership during production incidents and drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis and preventive actions.
- Develop engineering talent through mentoring, career development planning, succession planning, and effective performance management.
- Foster collaboration across geographically distributed teams and vendor partners.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
- 2+ years of experience managing and leading software engineering teams.
- Experience delivering large-scale enterprise applications across multiple technology stacks.
- Experience designing and implementing distributed systems and microservices architectures.
- Experience leading teams using Agile software development methodologies.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, CI/CD, DevSecOps, testing, and release management practices.
- Experience managing technology risk, compliance, and operational resiliency requirements.
- Proven ability to build, motivate, and retain high-performing engineering teams.
Desired Qualifications
- Proven leader with experience building, mentoring, and managing high-performing engineering teams.
- Strong technical leadership across Java, Spring Boot, .NET/C#, microservices, APIs, and cloud-native applications.
- Experience designing distributed, event-driven, and asynchronous systems using Kafka, MQ, Solace, or similar technologies.
- Deep understanding of architecture, scalability, technical debt management, and long-term technology strategy.
- Strong knowledge of non-functional requirements, including security, reliability, resiliency, performance, observability, and operational excellence.
- Experience with cloud and container platforms such as OpenShift, Kubernetes, Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Hands-on experience with Generative AI, Agentic AI, LLMs, RAG, autonomous workflows, and AI-assisted engineering tools.
- Expertise in Agile, DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure as code, and modern software engineering practices.
- Experience driving modernization initiatives, including cloud migration, application rationalization, API enablement, and platform transformation.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Experience leading geographically distributed teams, including vendor and contingent workforce resources.
- Preferred domain experience in Banking, Financial Services, Consumer Lending, Home Lending, Capital Markets, or Loan Servicing.
