About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer – GenAI & Agentic AI to lead the design, architecture, and enterprise adoption of next-generation AI platforms, copilots, autonomous agents, and AI-driven engineering solutions.

This role will serve as a technical thought leader responsible for building scalable Agentic AI capabilities, enabling AI-assisted software development, and establishing reusable AI frameworks across the Commercial, Corporate & Investment Banking Technology (CCIBT) organization. The Principal Engineer will partner with Architecture, Engineering, Security, Data, and Platform teams to accelerate AI innovation while ensuring governance, scalability, and risk management.


In this role, you will:

  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
  • Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software engineering, architecture, or technology experience.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale platforms or developer tools.
  • Hands-on experience with GenAI technologies, LLMs, RAG architectures, vector databases, and AI orchestration frameworks.
  • Strong expertise in modern software engineering practices, cloud-native technologies, APIs, and distributed systems.
  • Experience designing AI-enabled automation workflows and integrating AI models into enterprise applications.
  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, software quality engineering, and platform engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence architecture decisions across multiple.
  • Experience with GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, Devin, OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure AI, or similar AI platforms.
  • Experience building AI agents utilizing MCP, tool-calling frameworks, and workflow orchestration engines.
  • Knowledge of AI governance, model evaluation, responsible AI practices, and enterprise controls.
  • Financial Services or regulated-industry experience.
  • Contributions to open-source AI communities, engineering accelerators, or enterprise AI programs.
  • Strong passion for innovation and emerging technologies.

Job Expectations:

  • Lead the technical strategy, architecture, and implementation of GenAI and Agentic AI solutions.
  • Design and develop enterprise-grade AI agents, multi-agent orchestration frameworks, and AI-enabled workflows.
  • Build and scale AI-powered SDLC accelerators leveraging GitHub Copilot, MCP integrations, LLM platforms, and emerging AI technologies.
  • Define reference architectures, engineering standards, and guardrails for AI application development.
  • Drive innovation in AI-assisted coding, testing, code review, documentation generation, and developer productivity.
  • Partner with Enterprise Architecture and Security teams to ensure responsible AI adoption, governance, compliance, and risk management.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and create technology roadmaps for AI-enabled engineering transformation.
  • Lead proof-of-concepts and enterprise pilots to validate business value from AI solutions.
  • Mentor senior engineers and architects on GenAI engineering practices and enterprise AI patterns.
  • Collaborate with Product, Platform, and Engineering leaders to identify high-value automation opportunities across the SDLC.
  • Establish reusable AI frameworks, prompt engineering standards, agent libraries, and accelerator assets.
  • Influence enterprise-wide technical direction through architecture reviews, communities of practice, and technical forums.
