About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Wealth Underwriter in the Banking, Lending, & Trust's (BL&T) center of excellence within Wealth & Investment Management (WIM). As part of its vision for a flatter, more nimble organization that is easier to do business with, WIM has created horizontal functions known as centers of excellence to support all client coverage channels. BL&T is a center of excellence that brings teams and functions across WIM’s consumer businesses under a common, WIM-level organization.
The Underwriter will be on the Specialty Finance Group (SFG) credit team providing custom credit solutions to High Net Worth, Ultra High Net Worth, and Family Office clients. The SFG credit team is structured with four verticals offering credit secured by Securities Based Lending, including ESOP Qualified Replacement Property (QRP) loans, and complex/unique collateral types such as: aircraft, unsecured, concentrated and restricted stock positions, LLC interests, and other non-traditional collateral types. In this role, the Underwriter must be able to lead a lending opportunity from initial client discussions to LOI, through underwriting and final close.
In this role, you will:
- Perform financial analysis and underwriting and structuring of Custom Credit Banking relationships. The foregoing may include analyzing business financial statements and tax returns.
- Responsible for the efficient and timely analysis and underwriting of complex borrower, financial and collateral circumstances.
- Responsible for credit structuring and communicating recommendations verbally and in writing.
- Drive private banking credit execution to deliver high quality custom credit solutions to existing and new clients while meeting regional goals for asset quality, banking revenue, and profitability
- Regularly monitor existing portfolio and communicate findings and recommended solutions to management in a timely manner. This will assist with leadership decisions in credit risk management and ensure credit portfolio satisfactory risk exams.
- Meet with clients in partnership with a Custom Credit Banker in a client advisory role and in credit negotiations, as required.
- Collaborate and consult with more experienced management and regional teams on the timely completion of work and progress.
- Lead complex initiatives within a large geographical region to deliver high quality custom credit solutions with broad impact.
- Provide leadership and guidance to others.
- Exercise independent judgment and work with no direct supervision.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of Wealth Underwriting experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
- 5+ years of combined experience in the following: financial analysis, underwriting and structuring of highly complex, high net worth, consumer and commercial relationships
- Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision in a structured environment.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and creative problem solving techniques.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of credit: policy, compliance, underwriting, structuring, and documenting credit facilities.
- Experienced in Estate lending facilities and understanding of trust/estate structures
- Experienced in executing derivatives for managing interest-rate risk on lending facilities
- Experienced in Marketable-Secured lending facilities
- Experienced in aircraft lending
- Experienced in criticized/classified credits
- Knowledge and understanding of sales and client management processes
- Basic Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint) skills
- Knowledge and understanding of FIS Optimist (or Moody's Risk Analyst)

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
