Technology Director - Cybersecurity Engineering

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Technology Director for Cyber Engineering. This role focuses on engineering solutions for our next-generation security assessment, automated SaaS assurance, AI security validation, cyber risk intelligence, and Just in Time access. These capabilities enhance the firm’s ability to continuously assess, validate, and assure cybersecurity controls.

The impact of this role extends beyond individual proofs of concept, helping shape the future direction of Cyber Engineering across emerging technology domains. Key responsibilities include leading strategic engineering initiatives such as the AI Security Test Harness, driving unified findings and thematic risk analysis, advancing AI Security and Threat Assessment Automation, and partnering with cyber engineering leaders on initiatives such as Mindgard.ai, and Cisco Cyber Defense AI.  In addition, the role will lead the enterprise-scale Just-in-Time (JIT) access management solutions focused on endpoint security controls, privileged access governance, and secure-by-design solutions.   Overall responsible for developing business cases and executive technical roadmaps, evaluating build-versus-buy technology options, influencing architectural designs and driving cross-functional execution across cybersecurity, identity, product engineering, infrastructure, and operations organizations.  Partners with senior technology leaders to deliver scalable security capabilities that reduce risk, strengthen governance, and improve operational efficiency while supporting enterprise modernization initiatives.  Responsible for leading, building, and managing a team of advanced software engineers with diverse SME knowledge across many technologies.

Through strong technical leadership, experimentation, and cross-functional collaboration, this role accelerates innovation while improving security effectiveness, automation, and operational resilience.

The rapid adoption of AI, cloud-native technologies, SaaS platforms, and automated software delivery has introduced new cybersecurity risks that cannot be effectively addressed through traditional assessment and assurance approaches. Secure by Design includes several emerging initiatives that require dedicated technical leadership to evaluate new technologies, lead proofs of concept, and scale innovative ideas into enterprise capabilities.

This role provides focused ownership of strategic initiatives such as the AI Security Test Harness, unified findings and thematic risk analysis, Mindgard.ai and Cisco implementations and automation, next-generation security assessment and Just in Time access solutions. Without a dedicated leader, these efforts risk becoming fragmented across teams with competing priorities, slowing the organization’s ability to address emerging risks and adopt critical new capabilities.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead strategic engineering initiatives such as the AI Security Test Harness, driving unified findings and thematic risk analysis, advancing AI Security and Threat Assessment Automation, and partnering with cyber engineering leaders on initiatives such as Mindgard.ai, and Cisco Cyber Defense AI.  In addition, the role will lead the enterprise-scale Just-in-Time (JIT) access management solutions focused on endpoint security controls, privileged access governance, and secure-by-design solutions.
  • Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, platform teams, and security experts to define roadmap and architecture.
  • Provide technical leadership in design reviews, code reviews, and architecture discussions.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends in AI, ML, GenAI, and cybersecurity to introduce innovative approaches and tools.
  • Guide the adoption and implementation of enterprise AI/ML platforms, as well as champion custom-built solutions when needed.
  • Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and collaboration.
  • Ensure engineering practices meet the highest standards of security, performance, and scalability.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional leaders to align engineering efforts with business objectives.
  • Define and track KPIs and OKRs for engineering execution, team growth, and solution impact.
  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving escalated resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standard
