Lead Infrastructure Engineer

Wells Fargo is seeking a highly skilled Lead Engineer to join the Enterprise Observability Engineering organization. This role will lead the design, development, and engineering of enterprise observability solutions supporting application performance monitoring, distributed tracing, telemetry collection, and AI-enabled operational intelligence.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership for cloud-native observability platforms including Splunk Observability Cloud (SPLOC), AppDynamics, Dynatrace, OpenTelemetry, and related telemetry services. This role requires strong software engineering expertise combined with deep knowledge of observability technologies, cloud-native architectures, and enterprise-scale monitoring solutions.

In This Role, You Will

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of enterprise observability and distributed tracing solutions.
  • Design and develop cloud-native applications, APIs, and services using Java, Spring Boot, and modern microservices architectures.
  • Build scalable telemetry platforms and services supporting enterprise monitoring, tracing, and performance analytics.
  • Design and implement OpenTelemetry instrumentation standards, frameworks, and telemetry collection architectures.
  • Develop and maintain tracing pipelines, collectors, gateways, and associated observability infrastructure.
  • Deploy and support applications and services on Kubernetes and OpenShift environments.
  • Develop automated solutions for instrumentation, telemetry onboarding, platform upgrades, compliance validation, and operational monitoring.
  • Build reusable software components that enable enterprise adoption of observability standards.
  • Drive integration of observability platforms with enterprise automation, incident management, and operational tooling.
  • Evaluate and implement AI-driven observability capabilities including anomaly detection, intelligent troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
  • Influence enterprise observability strategy, standards, and best practices.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across multiple initiatives and teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Solutions experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Platform Engineering, SRE, or related experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience developing enterprise applications using Java and Spring Boot.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise observability platforms including Splunk Observability Cloud (SignalFx/SPLOC), AppDynamics, or Dynatrace.
  • Strong experience designing and developing microservices and RESTful APIs.
  • Deep understanding of OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, telemetry pipelines, and observability concepts.
  • Experience deploying and supporting applications on Kubernetes and containerized platforms.
  • Experience with MongoDB or similar NoSQL databases including data modeling and performance optimization.
  • Experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise monitoring, application performance management, and reliability engineering practices.
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives and influence engineering decisions across organizations.
  • Experience implementing OpenTelemetry solutions at enterprise scale.
  • Experience designing and operating large-scale observability platforms.
  • Knowledge of GenAI, LLMs, AI Agents, AIOps, and intelligent operational workflows.
  • Experience integrating observability platforms with ServiceNow, automation frameworks, and incident management solutions.
  • Experience with OpenShift and cloud-native platform engineering.
  • Experience supporting large-scale modernization, migration, or cloud transformation initiatives.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Industry certifications in Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
