Senior Lead Technology Risk Officer | Technology Risk Management

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Lead Technology Risk Officer.

The Technology Governance, Risk & Controls Oversight Leader provides independent second-line oversight and credible challenge of technology governance, risk management, and control programs. This role evaluates the effectiveness of governance frameworks, risk management practices, control environments, regulatory compliance programs, operational resilience capabilities, and strategic technology initiatives. The successful candidate will help ensure technology risks are appropriately identified, assessed, monitored, and mitigated in alignment with enterprise standards, risk appetite, and regulatory expectations.

As a Senior Lead Technology Risk Officer, this individual will influence enterprise technology risk strategy, provide oversight of critical technology and AI initiatives, engage with executive leadership, and contribute to strengthening the organization's overall technology risk governance framework.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide independent oversight and credible challenge of technology governance frameworks, decision-making processes, and accountability structures.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of governance committees, reporting forums, and escalation processes in supporting informed risk-based decisions.
  • Assess alignment between technology strategies, priorities, investments, and enterprise objectives.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, monitoring, and mitigation of technology risks across the organization.
  • Review risk assessments, control evaluations, and risk profiles to ensure material risks are appropriately identified, measured, and managed.
  • Provide independent challenge regarding risk acceptance decisions, remediation strategies, and residual risk determinations.
  • Monitor key risk indicators, emerging risks, and risk trends across the technology environment and communicate key observations to senior stakeholders.
  • Identify and communicate control weaknesses, emerging concerns, and opportunities for risk reduction in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Oversee adherence to technology policies, standards, and procedures, and assess the effectiveness of related governance processes.
  • Monitor policy exceptions, control deficiencies, and regulatory compliance activities to ensure timely resolution and appropriate risk treatment.
  • Provide independent oversight and challenge of AI governance frameworks, operating models, and decision-making practices.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of AI governance structures, accountability models, and risk ownership responsibilities.
  • Assess emerging AI-related risks and evaluate whether appropriate governance, monitoring, and risk management practices are in place.
  • Drive continuous improvement of technology risk oversight, governance reporting, and risk management processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Technology Risk experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in technology, technology risk management, operational risk, information security, technology governance, or related disciplines.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise risk management frameworks and regulatory expectations.
  • Experience evaluating technology controls, risk exposures, and remediation plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and provide effective independent risk challenge.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and executive-level presentation skills.
  • Experience operating within complex organizational structures and large-scale technology environments.
  • Experience supporting technology governance initiatives and/or AI transformation programs.
  • Knowledge of banking and financial services regulatory requirements.
  • Professional certifications such as CISA, CRISC, CISSP, CGEIT, or equivalent.

  • Willingness to comply with our current hybrid work model; working from a Wells Fargo facility at least four days a week, with the flexibility to work remotely one day a week.
