About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking an Operational Risk Executive to lead Operational Risk Business Oversight (ORBO) for the Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) Markets division. Reporting to the Head of Operational Risk for CIB, this role is accountable for providing independent second-line oversight across Markets – including Fixed Income, Macro, Commodities, and Equities businesses.

This leader will serve as a strategic partner and credible challenger to senior business executives, providing authoritative review and challenge of operational risk management practices across front-office trading, sales, and support functions. The role is responsible for identifying emerging risks, evaluating control effectiveness, influencing risk strategy, and ensuring alignment with the Company's Risk Management Framework, enterprise risk programs, and regulatory expectations. Success in this role requires deep Markets expertise, strong risk judgment, and the ability to influence executive decision-making through data-driven insights and effective communication.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide independent second-line Operational Risk oversight for the CIB Markets division, including:
      • Fixed Income trading and sales activities
      • Rates, Foreign Exchange, and Macro businesses
      • Commodities trading and related support functions
      • Equities trading, prime services, financing, and electronic trading platforms
  • Assess and challenge risks associated with:
      • Trade lifecycle processes
      • Market infrastructure and exchange connectivity
      • Front-office technology, automation, and algorithmic trading platforms
      • Regulatory reporting and transaction processing
      • Third-party and vendor dependencies
      • Operational resilience, business continuity, and recovery capabilities
      • Data management, model-driven processes, and AI-enabled business activities
  • Lead independent review and challenge of:
      • Risk and control self-assessments
      • Operational risk and loss events
      • Emerging risk assessments
      • Material issues and corrective action programs
      • New business initiatives, products, and strategic transformations
  • Identify and escalate significant operational risk themes to senior management, Risk Committees, and executive governance forums.
  • Partner with Compliance, Independent Risk Management, Audit, Technology, Operations, and business leadership teams to promote a strong risk culture and sustainable risk management practices.
  • Develop strategic risk insights that inform decisions related to operational resilience, control effectiveness, technology transformation, growth initiatives, and risk appetite.
  • Lead and develop a team of senior operational risk professionals, driving organizational effectiveness, succession planning, and talent development.

As a leader, you will lead your team with integrity and create an environment where employees feel included, valued, and supported to do work that energizes them. You will have accountability for management responsibilities including hiring, coaching, performance management, talent development, risk management, and execution of daily leadership activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of Operational Risk experience or equivalent experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 6+ years of Management experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in Operational Risk Management, Audit, or related Independent Risk functions supporting Corporate & Investment Banking Markets businesses
  • Deep knowledge of Fixed Income, Rates, Foreign Exchange, Commodities, Equities, Electronic Trading, and Sales & Trading Operations
  • Significant experience assessing operational risks associated with front-office trading environments, trade execution, post-trade processes, technology platforms, and market infrastructure
  • Strong executive presence with a demonstrated ability to influence senior executives, exercise independent risk judgment, and provide effective challenge
  • Strong understanding of regulatory expectations applicable to investment banking and markets businesses
  • Exceptional communication skills, including experience presenting complex risk themes to executive leadership, governance committees, and regulators
  • Proven ability to lead large-scale, complex, cross-functional initiatives and deliver sustainable risk outcomes
  • Experience overseeing major operational change, technology transformation, and automation initiatives within investment banking and markets environments
  • Expert understanding of operational risk management frameworks, including risk identification, assessment, monitoring, issue management, operational resilience, and governance
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships across Independent Risk Management, Compliance, Audit, Technology, Operations, and business leadership teams
  • Ability to develop practical risk solutions, articulate clear recommendations, and influence timely decision-making in a complex environment
  • Proven leader with a track record of developing talent, building high-performing teams, and delivering strong business and risk outcomes
  • Ability to inspire, engage, and lead a complex, geographically dispersed organization through strong leadership presence and communication
  • Experience engaging with global regulators, including interpreting regulatory trends and expectations and navigating regulatory interactions effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate complex challenges or issues and achieve balanced outcomes that are in the best interest of the company
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with an inquisitive mindset and the confidence to challenge existing practices to drive efficiency, consistency, and standardization

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
$290,000.00 - $500,000.00
