About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to design, build, and support mission‑critical core banking applications. This is a hands‑on technical leadership role focused on delivering highly reliable, secure, and scalable enterprise solutions in a regulated financial services environment.
In this role, you will lead complex technology initiatives, provide technical direction to engineers, and collaborate closely with product, architecture, DevOps, and infrastructure teams. You will apply modern engineering practices, cloud‑native platforms, and AI‑assisted development tools to improve delivery speed and code quality while upholding Wells Fargo’s risk and security standards.
In this role, you will:
Provide hands‑on technical leadership, contributing directly to design, development, testing, and deployment of core banking applications
Lead complex technology initiatives with broad impact, ensuring solutions are scalable, stable, and secure
Serve as a technical authority for Java‑based services and integrations, guiding design decisions across the team
Ensure applications meet Wells Fargo risk, security, compliance, and regulatory requirements
Act as an escalation point for complex production issues, including root‑cause analysis and remediation
Demonstrate strong ownership of production stability and release readiness
Collaborate effectively across product, architecture, security, infrastructure, and DevOps teams
Drive engineering standards, best practices, and continuous improvement
Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and technical guidance
Balance delivery speed with operational excellence, resilience, and risk management
Apply AI‑assisted development tools responsibly, validating output and adhering to secure coding standards
Participate in Agile delivery, planning, and enterprise SDLC processes
Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
Operate effectively in a highly regulated, high‑availability enterprise environment
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
5+ years strong experience with Java enterprise applications
5+ years hands‑on experience with Spring‑WS, REST, and SOAP‑based services
3+ years experience in relational databases (Oracle and/or DB2)
2+ years experience with OpenShift (OCP), Kubernetes, and containerized deployments
3+ years experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub, Jenkins, or equivalent)
2+ years hands on experience with GitHub workflows, branching strategies, and code reviews
1 year experience using GitHub Copilot or similar AI‑assisted development tools
3+ years experience with JIRA and Agile/Scrum methodologies
3+ years experience with enterprise monitoring and logging tools such as AppDynamics, Dynatrace, or Splunk
2+ years experience with messaging platforms such as MQ and Kafka
Desired Qualifications:
Experience working in core banking, payments, deposits, or other regulated financial systems
Strong understanding of high‑availability, distributed, and transaction‑based systems
Familiarity with performance tuning, resiliency, and capacity planning for Java applications
Exposure to cloud‑native or hybrid‑cloud architectures and enterprise automation
Experience building applications in financial services or other regulated environments

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.
