Principal Engineer - IM, Voice & Video

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to join the IM, Voice & Video Engineering team within Workplace Technology (WT) responsible for enterprise collaboration platforms. This role serves as the technical authority for Microsoft Teams Collaboration, Microsoft Teams Voice, Live Events, Microsoft Townhall, and Zoom Video Conferencing. The Principal Engineer will lead platform architecture, engineering standards, security, resilience, and large-scale adoption strategies across the enterprise. This role partners closely with senior leadership, product owners, architecture, information security, and operations teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable collaboration solutions that support Wells Fargo’s global workforce.


In this role, you will:

  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
  • Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.

Desired Qualifications:

  • As a Principal Engineer, you will lead platform architecture, engineering standards, security, resilience, and large-scale adoption strategies across the enterprise. This role partners closely with senior leadership, product owners, architecture, information security, and operations teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable collaboration solutions that support Wells Fargo’s global workforce.
  • Serve as the technical authority for enterprise collaboration and conferencing platforms, including Microsoft Teams (Collaboration & Voice), Live Events, Microsoft Townhall, and Zoom.
  • Define and lead architecture, engineering standards, and platform strategy for real-time communications across multiple lines of business.
  • Drive the design and governance of Teams Voice capabilities, including PSTN integration, Direct Routing, Operator Connect, SBC architecture, dial plans, QoS, and emergency calling.
  • Own platform architecture for enterprise meetings, webinars, Live Events, and Townhall, ensuring scalability, capacity planning, and broadcast-grade reliability.
  • Partner closely with Information Security, Risk, Compliance, and Legal teams to ensure platforms meet security, regulatory, data privacy, retention, recording, and eDiscovery requirements.
  • Lead resilience, disaster recovery, and operational readiness aligned with enterprise RTO/RPO standards.
  • Drive audit readiness and sustained compliance with enterprise security and regulatory controls.
  • Define and enforce engineering standards across:
    • Monitoring and telemetry
    • Patch and vulnerability management
    • Change and release governance
  • Act as Level 4 escalation for complex, cross-platform incidents.
  • Influence incident response practices, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage changes in alignment with ITIL-aligned change management practices.
  • Drive automation and engineering efficiency for provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and lifecycle management using APIs, Power Platform, and engineering best practices.
  • Ensure high availability, scalability, resiliency, and performance for a global user base.
  • Own the end-to-end platform lifecycle, including onboarding, upgrades, patching, capacity planning, performance tuning, decommissioning, and roadmap alignment (where applicable to collaboration platforms).
  • Collaborate closely with Architecture, Product Management, User Experience, Information Security, Resiliency, and Infrastructure teams.
  • Partner with Product Managers to align engineering execution with OKRs and measurable business outcomes.
  • Engage with vendors and manufacturers for platform support, upgrades, implementations, and roadmap planning.
  • Serve as a mentor and technical leader to senior engineers and architects, raising the bar for engineering excellence.
  • Develop and lead technical forums, working groups, and communities of practice to drive consistency, knowledge sharing, and architectural rigor across the enterprise.

Job Expectations:

  • 7+ years of experience in engineering, architecture, or platform leadership, or equivalent demonstrated professional experience.
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft Teams Collaboration and Teams Voice within large‑scale enterprise environments.
  • Strong experience with enterprise conferencing platforms, including Zoom.
  • In‑depth knowledge of real‑time communications, networking, identity, security, and compliance in complex enterprise environments.
  • Proven track record of leading highly complex, large‑scale technical initiatives with enterprise‑wide impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leadership and provide strategic technical guidance across multiple organizations.
  • Experience supporting collaboration platforms in regulated industries, such as financial services.
  • Advanced expertise in Teams Voice architectures, including Direct Routing, SBC design, emergency services (E911), and call quality optimization.
  • Experience designing and supporting Live Events, Town Halls, and executive broadcast solutions.
  • Strong background in automation, APIs, and platform engineering.
  • Prior experience operating at a Principal Engineer or Architect level within a large enterprise environment.
  • Proven ability to mentor, coach, and develop senior and principal‑level engineering talent.
  • Strong PowerShell scripting skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Graph API.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence both technical and executive audiences.
  • Strong cross‑functional collaboration skills across infrastructure, security, compliance, and application teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and systems‑thinking capabilities.
  • Experience working in large, highly regulated enterprises (50,000+ users preferred).
