About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Network Engineer.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the review, resolution and implementation for the most complex technical issues and initiatives related to large scale network applications, data systems, voice and other technical products and services
- Use and create diagnostic, simulation and other tools to maintain, troubleshoot and restore service or data to systems
- Evaluate or review queries to extract data, create standard procedures, or perform limited programming to fine tune systems supported
- Research performance trends and recommend process improvements
- Perform complex migrations from development to production, upgrades, installations and configurations
- Make decisions in security and regulatory policies to design and implement foolproof secured network solutions
- Assess changes for risk to production systems and assure quality, security and compliance requirements are met for supported areas
- Identify gaps in current technology processes and recommend changes to assure Service Level Agreements can be supported
- Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of Network Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or related field.
- CCNA / CCNP (Routing & Switching, Voice) certifications preferred.
- Hands‑on experience installing and supporting Cisco routers and switches in production.
- Experience with:
- SDWAN - solution and troubleshooting , Automation , Templates
- SDWAN/Wireless enterprise deployments
- High‑density environments (e.g., trading floors)
The Lead Network Engineer is a senior individual contributor responsible for end‑to‑end ownership of enterprise campus, WAN, SD‑WAN, and branch networks across large office locations and mission‑critical environments. This role serves as the primary technical authority and escalation point for complex network initiatives, combining deep hands‑on expertise with operational leadership and audit readiness.
The position plays a critical role in network resiliency engineering, technology refresh programs, SD‑WAN modernization, capacity planning, and global standards execution, while actively mentoring engineers and driving operational discipline across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of the most complex technical issues across large‑scale enterprise networks, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, SD‑WAN, and voice platforms.
- Design, implement, and optimize high‑availability, resilient, and scalable enterprise campus and WAN architectures.
- Define and maintain network standards, reference architectures, and design documentation.
- Lead technology refresh initiatives, capacity planning, and future‑state network designs.
- Evaluate, test, and onboard new networking technologies, tools, and vendors.
- Utilize advanced diagnostics, simulations, automation scripts, and telemetry to proactively detect issues and optimize performance.
- Plan and execute end‑to‑end network deployments, including installations, upgrades, configuration changes, and enterprise‑wide refresh programs.
- Perform complex development‑to‑production migrations
- Drive and participate in change management processes, including impact analysis, implementation planning, peer reviews, and operational compliance.
- Design and implement secure network solutions aligned to regulatory, security, and enterprise compliance requirements.
- Assess proposed and implemented changes for performance, reliability, and security risks.
- Ensure production stability and adherence to governance and audit standards.
- Analyze network performance trends, telemetry, capacity metrics, and incident data to identify systemic issues.
- Identify bottlenecks, single points of failure, and chronic reliability concerns.
- Recommend and implement process improvements, automation, and tooling enhancements to improve SLA adherence.
- Continuously refine operational workflows for scalability, consistency, and efficiency.
- Act as a senior escalation point for high‑severity and complex incidents.
- Lead cross‑functional troubleshooting with operations, engineering, vendors, and service providers.
- Conduct and document root‑cause analysis (RCA) with clear corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate and escalate with ISPs and carriers for:
- Circuit outages
- Performance degradation
- Provisioning and capacity challenges
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to network engineers and operations teams.
- Guide workload prioritization, technical decision‑making, and execution quality.
- Conduct regular team forums to align on priorities, risks, and delivery milestones.
- Operate autonomously with minimal supervision while providing clarity and direction on complex initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with peers, management, and cross‑functional stakeholders to deliver strategic outcomes.
- Establish and enforce best practices, standardized configurations, and governance frameworks.
- Create procedural guides and knowledge articles to promote operational excellence and team upskilling.
- Demonstrate deep hands‑on expertise with enterprise‑grade networking technologies, including:
- Switches, routers, wireless controllers, access points
- Firewalls, load balancers, and network security platforms
- Maintain strong proficiency in:
- LAN/WAN routing and switching
- Wireless architectures
- Multicast and QoS design
- Network automation and scripting
- Stay current with emerging technologies and drive adoption where they improve resiliency, performance, or operational efficiency.
