About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Database Engineer.
In this role, you will:
- Lead or participate in database management activities including designing highly complex logical and physical databases
- Lead highly complex data modeling, mapping, integration, and capacity planning efforts
- Perform the planning, research, design, implementation, maintenance, and control of server class databases
- Design and implement security solutions including Center for Internet Security benchmarks and auditing
- Design and certify next generation database technologies
- Consult with and advise management and multiple clients on high impact data or database management issues, influencing strategic direction
- Provide technical leadership and recommendation into the future direction of database technology
- Develop management policies, procedures, standards, and best practices
- Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years of Database Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
Strong experience in Oracle Database Administration (11g, 12c, 19c or higher)
Hands-on expertise with:
- Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM/OMS)
- Exadata systems
- RMAN backups and recovery
- ZDLRA (preferred)
Experience with:
- Database patching and upgrades
- Performance tuning and troubleshooting
- High Availability (RAC, Data Guard)
Operational Expertise
- Proven experience in production support environments
- Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Change, Problem Management)
- Experience handling mission-critical systems with strict SLAs
Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work under pressure in high-demand environments
- Effective communication and cross-team collaboration
- Proactive mindset toward automation and continuous improvement
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field
- 8–12+ years of experience in Oracle database administration
- Certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or higher are preferred
Job Expectations:
Platform Operations & Support
- Manage day-to-day operations including:
- Monitoring, alerts, and incident resolution
- Service requests and change management activities
- Ensure high availability and performance of Oracle databases
OEM / OMS Management
- Administer Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM/OMS):
- Agent lifecycle management and health monitoring
- Patch management and upgrades
- Certificate lifecycle management
Database Administration
- Oversee database performance, availability, and tuning
- Execute backup and recovery strategies
- Ensure data integrity and reliability across environments
ZDLRA (Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance)
- Monitor backup health and integrity
- Validate recovery readiness and disaster recovery capabilities
- Perform regular backup verification and compliance activities
Exadata Platform Coordination
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams for:
- Exadata patching cycles
- Performance optimization
- Issue troubleshooting and resolution
Compliance & Maintenance
- Support mandatory activities including:
- Quarterly security patching
- Certification and audit compliance
- Vulnerability remediation
Continuous Improvement & Reliability
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventive measures
- Identify and execute automation and optimization opportunities
- Improve system resilience and eliminate single points of failure
On call & Escalation Support
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical incidents
- Provide escalation support during high-severity outages
- Ensure knowledge sharing and backup coverage within the team
