About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Software Engineer to support the development, enhancement, and operation of enterprise observability platforms that provide monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, and dashboarding capabilities across cloud and on-premises environments. The engineer will contribute to platform reliability, automation, and user adoption by partnering with application, infrastructure, and SRE teams. This role requires hands-on experience with observability tools, platform support, automation, and operational excellence, while helping scale observability services and improve the developer experience across the enterprise.


In this role, you will:

  • Design, develop, and maintain observability solutions including dashboards, alerts, metrics, logs, and traces.
  • Implement and support observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, Datadog, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, OpenTelemetry, or similar platforms
  • Partner with application, infrastructure, SRE, and cloud engineering teams to establish observability standards and best practices.
  • Automate observability onboarding, dashboard provisioning, and monitoring workflows using scripting and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Analyze system performance, identify bottlenecks, and recommend optimization opportunities
  • Support incident management activities by providing operational insights and root-cause analysis
  • Contribute to observability governance, documentation, and adoption initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of software engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, Application Support, DevOps, Cloud Operations, or Observability.
  • Working knowledge of monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting concepts.
  • Experience with at least one observability platform such as Grafana, Splunk, Dynatrace, Datadog, AppDynamics, New Relic, or Elastic.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar.
  • Understanding of REST APIs, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code concepts.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with Open Telemetry and distributed tracing.
  • Knowledge of SRE principles, SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native technologies.
  • Familiarity with Terraform, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins.
  • Understanding of enterprise observability frameworks such as MELTS (Metrics, Events, Logs, Traces, and Security).


    Job Expectations:

    • Develop and support enterprise observability platform capabilities, including monitoring, logging, tracing, and dashboarding.
    • Build, deploy, and automate observability solutions using DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud technologies.
    • Ensure applications meet observability NFRs and enterprise standards by implementing best practices and proactively identifying telemetry gaps.
