About this role:
Lead the Banking business for FIG in the APAC region (excluding Japan) with the goal of deepening and developing FIG client relationships to drive fee income across the full suite of Wells Fargo products and services while prudently managing capital and enhancing profitability within the risk framework of Wells Fargo. The role includes direct management of the APAC relationship management team and local oversight of the APAC Portfolio Management team.
In this role, you will:
- Strategy: Develop and execute the strategy for APAC FIG encompassing client selection, coverage strategy, client planning, content creation, new business origination, capital allocation and risk management. The role includes building trusted relationships with product partners and support functions to develop a co-ordinated client strategy and deliver the firm to clients.
- Leadership/ team management: Player/coach providing line management, direction and oversight of the APAC relationship management team, including guidance and coaching to team members. Lead and oversee business origination and transaction execution ensuring at all times that such activities are carried out in line with Wells Fargo policies and procedures, and local licensing requirements. Maintain a pristine risk and control environment within Wells Fargo’s risk appetite. Ensure managerial and administrative tasks are diligently executed.
- Business Development: Maintain in depth sector knowledge. Build lasting, influential, consultative client relationships. Directly manage a portfolio of clients. Oversee and directly source new business across Wells Fargo’s product suite globally for the customer base, tactically allocating capital to generate above hurdle relationship returns. Prudently manage direct costs.
- Risk Management: Provide risk management oversight of the client portfolio from a credit, financial crime (AML/Sanctions), and compliance risk perspective. This includes understanding and assessing key risks within the client portfolio, clearly communicating views, and providing recommendations including risk mitigation strategies where applicable. Ensure that all required documents such as annual credit reviews, relationship memos are produced on a timely basis while meeting the expected quality standards and provide approvals as area head where required.
- Reputation: Protect the Wells Fargo brand and appropriately manage reputational risk considerations. Promote a ‘One Wells Fargo’ approach to stakeholder engagement and management.
- Governance: Understand and operate within Wells Fargo’s risk framework and policies and procedures. Represent the APAC FIG line of business at committee and council meetings where required. Understand and adhere to applicable regulatory requirements, policies and standards.
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years of Corporate Banking Relationship Management or leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 4+ years of management or leadership experience
- Extensive client coverage and/or product experience with existing and demonstrable relationships with banks in the APAC region, including at Treasurer and C-Suite levels.
- In-depth knowledge of the banking sector, market dynamics and regulatory landscape.
- In-depth understanding of capital markets, financing and risk management products and services and transaction banking products.
- Knowledge and transaction track record of executing Financing (DCM, structured finance, lending) and Markets (FX, rates and credit) transactions with Banks.
- Experience executing complex credit transactions ensuring efficient and prudent use of balance sheet and capital.
- A track record of sound credit, compliance and reputational/franchise risk management and oversight.
- Ability to work closely with senior leadership and internal partners to align business strategy.
- Leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively performance manage team members.
Job Expectations:
- The incumbent will be expected to obtain and hold any relevant licenses as required by the bank in compliance with the local governing regulatory body necessary to perform the responsibilities of the role
