Lead Engineer – Capital Markets Technology - FICC Strategic Trade Management

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Engineer to drive the modernization of our Fixed Income, Currencies, and Commodities (FICC) trading platforms. This role focuses on leading architectural components and delivery for a unified, cloud-native, ultra-low-latency platform grounded in FINOS CDM specifications and modern design principles. You will partner closely with product and engineering leaders to shape key platform capabilities across trade capture, lifecycle automation, pricing, risk, and settlement workflows—setting a high bar for engineering quality while remaining hands-on in critical design and implementation decisions.

This is a rare opportunity to lead critical modernization within Wells Fargo’s capital markets platforms, leveraging Agentic workflows, Industry standard data model specifications and modern design principles to deliver a sophisticated trade management system. If you thrive on solving complex architectural challenges, guiding teams through deep technical transformation, and accelerating innovation in a mission-critical environment, we invite you to join our team and help shape the future of financial technology.

In this role, you will:

  • Own and execute the architecture roadmap for a Strategic Trade Management platform aligned to FINOS CDM-based schemas, enabling robust modeling of trade events, risk states, and valuation flows

  • Design and build distributed microservices using Java (Spring Boot, reactive), gRPC, Apache Ignite/Flink/Kafka, Python/FastAPI, and service mesh (Istio/Linkerd), applying FINOS CDM-based data structures to optimize for low latency and high throughput

  • Embed agentic AI solutions within platform workflows where they add measurable value—using FINOS CDM-aligned context to automate trade-state transitions, exception management, and operational decision support

  • Lead key workstreams in the transformation from monolithic systems to cloud-native architectures, applying domain-driven design and event-driven patterns to deliver scalable, resilient, and auditable services

  • Drive non-functional requirements (latency, scalability, resilience, observability, security) for the platform and help operationalize them through modern CI/CD, automated testing, and production readiness standards

  • Partner with stakeholders across trading, quant, risk, operations, and compliance to translate business requirements into pragmatic technical designs that meet regulatory and risk standards

  • Mentor engineers and tech leads through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on guidance; establish best practices for secure, observable, and testable services; drive adoption of FINOS CDM-driven architectures and modern distributed-system patterns

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Specialty Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 5+ years of experience with Java, Python/FastAPI, gRPC, service mesh, and microservices with a track record of building scalable, resilient, high-performance systems using modern engineering patterns

  • 5+ years of engineering experience in technology with strong Agentic Engineering and Data expertise

  • 5+ years of experience with advanced proficiency with distributed systems design, Data Modeling , and high-volume environments

  • 5+ years of experience with major GenAI platforms (e.g., GitHub Copilot), Claude, Codex

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in agentic SDLC workflows

  • Hands-on experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP), practical applications

  • Functional understanding of Fixed Income, Currency, and Commodities trading products and their trade lifecycle

  • Experience with industry-leading trade lifecycle platforms (Quartz, Athena, SecDB, etc.) and hands-on contribution to strategic modernization programs at tier-one banks or fintechs

  • Proficiency in agentic AI/ML integration, GitHub Copilot-style development workflows, and domain-oriented data ownership using FINOS CDM specifications

  • Deep knowledge of derivatives trading models, trade-event state machines, and risk engines, including valuation and collateral management workflows.

  • Experience implementing service mesh (Istio, Envoy) and micro frontend architectures for high-frequency trading UIs

  • Good understanding of capital markets regulatory standards (Dodd-Frank, EMIR, CFTC, SEC) and risk frameworks

  • Passion for mentoring and building high-performing engineering teams focused on modern, agile, and agentic development practices

  • Strong communication and influence skills, with demonstrated ability to align cross-functional stakeholders on technical direction and delivery trade-offs

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related quantitative discipline (or equivalent experience)

Job Expectations:

  • Serve as a technical authority and leader for streaming and real-time platforms

  • Provide guidance during production incidents and critical escalations

  • Drive engineering excellence, platform stability, and continuous improvement

  • Collaborate effectively across geographically distributed teams
