Lead FIX Engineer

This role is specifically aligned to engineers supporting trading connectivity and FIX‑based execution platforms within Wealth Management Technology.

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer with deep FIX protocol experience to support and evolve our trading and market connectivity platforms. This role combines hands‑on engineering with technical leadership, serving as a FIX subject matter expert while helping drive broader standards, resiliency, and modernization across trading systems.

Our team includes 300+ engineers across the US and India, with primary hubs in New York/New Jersey, Charlotte (NC), and St. Louis (MO). Our engineers are passionate about AI and use AI‑driven development tools as part of a modern, full‑stack engineering culture. We leverage both Kubernetes based on-prem cloud and public cloud infrastructure to deploy our solutions. Our full stack engineers have the flexibility to collaborate with peers in the office three days a week and stay focused on delivery through partnership with a dedicated first‑line support organization. In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact

  • Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large-scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines

  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs

  • Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors

  • Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives

  • Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals

  • Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 5+ years of hands‑on backend software development experience using Java or C#

  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience working with the FIX protocol (FIX 4.x or FIX 5.0), including session and application layers
  • 3+ years of experience onboarding, certifying, and supporting FIX connections with external counterparties (e.g., broker‑dealers, exchanges, ECNs, or vendors)
  • 3+ years of experience monitoring and troubleshooting FIX session issues, including sequence gaps, disconnects, heartbeat failures, and message rejections
  • 3+ years of experience designing and building integration services or APIs in trading or real‑time systems
  • 2+ years of hands‑on experience supporting electronic trading systems, including order routing, execution processing, and related FIX message flows

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating FIX certification, UAT, and go‑live activities with external broker‑dealers, exchanges, ECNs, or vendors
  • Experience working directly with counterparty technical teams to resolve connectivity, session stability, and message‑mapping issues
  • Experience analyzing FIX logs and message flows to diagnose application‑level and session‑level issues
  • Familiarity with FIX connectivity infrastructure, including TCP/TLS networking, firewall rules, and extranet or vendor‑managed connectivity providers
  • Experience building or contributing to monitoring and alerting for FIX session health, message throughput, and latency
  • Experience with cloud‑native architectures and container platforms such as Kubernetes
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, source control, and automated testing in regulated or highly available environments
  • Familiarity with market data or trading platforms supporting real‑time or near real‑time processing
  • Experience conducting code reviews, supporting release readiness, and enforcing engineering best practices
  • Experience using tools and practices related to application security and vulnerability management

Job Expectations:

  • Ability to work in the office at one of the posted locations
  • Willingness to participate in rotational on‑call or off‑hours support

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$119,000.00 - $224,000.00
