Lead Investigator, Internal Investigations

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Investigator to join the Employment and Investigations Division of the Wells Fargo Legal Department. As a highly regulated and sophisticated financial institution, Wells Fargo has several functions and programs designed to support ethical conduct and identify, investigate, and mitigate employee misconduct. The Employment and Investigations Division provides advice and counsel to Front Line and Second Line functions on matters relating to employee conduct including allegation management and internal investigations. This is a non-attorney position that will primarily support the Department’s internal investigation function to lead or participate in complex investigations.

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct and lead thorough and credible internal investigations related to alleged violations of Company policies and procedures with moderate to high risk and complexity
  • Use various systems and tools to research and gather evidence as part of the investigative process that require in-depth analytical research and evaluation
  • Function under a moderate degree of guidance and supervision
  • Conduct and document witness interviews
  • Document investigative findings in a clear, concise, and thorough manner, and confirm that case documentation is consistent with documented policies, procedures, and expectations
  • Exercise judgment within broadly defined policies and practices and recommend or take appropriate actions to correct problems, including assisting and or advising management in the formal discipline/corrective action or termination of individuals
  • Identify and engage appropriate personnel to enhance potential control deficiencies
  • Make risk-based decisions in compliance with Company, legal and regulatory requirements, and recommend actions in response to investigations
  • Collaborate with individual, legal, business management, and other resources including offering employment recommendations based on investigative results
  • Serve as the primary client contact on assigned casework, and function with limited guidance and supervision

 
Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Investigations experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, or education


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting and supporting employee internal investigations involving allegations of misconduct, including fraud, falsification, forgery, and theft
  • Background within the financial services industry, with knowledge of banking operations, systems, and investigative case management tools
  • Demonstrated investigative interviewing skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment in accordance with policies, procedures, and regulatory expectations
  • Ability to manage multiple investigations or projects concurrently in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate complex information, identify risk, and synthesize findings into clear, well‑documented conclusions
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with experience presenting findings to senior leaders and key stakeholders
  • Highly organized, adaptable, and collaborative professional with advanced Microsoft Office skills and a BS/BA degree or higher

Job Expectations:

  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule, in office at least 3 days a week
  • Travel up to 10% travel


 

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$87,000.00 - $154,000.00
