About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Payroll Coordinator on the Overpayments team to support payroll operations, with a focus on identifying, researching, and resolving overpayment and pay discrepancy issues. This role requires a strong analytical mindset to investigate payroll transactions, understand how payments are generated, and ensure accurate resolution of complex payroll issues. The individual will work primarily through case management (ServiceNow), partnering cross-functionally while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

In this role, you will:

  • Investigate payroll discrepancies and overpayments by analyzing pay data, transactions, and system inputs to determine root cause

  • Utilize ServiceNow cases to research issues, document findings, and drive resolution in a timely manner

  • Support payroll operations by ensuring accurate records, payroll inputs, and adjustments across systems

  • Analyze how payroll items (earnings, deductions, adjustments) are processed and appear on employee paychecks

  • Communicate primarily through written channels (email and case management), including outreach to terminated employees when needed

  • Partner with HR Business Partners, Legal, and other stakeholders to resolve sensitive or complex overpayment situations

  • Perform detailed audits of payroll data and transactions to ensure compliance with policies and controls

  • Identify trends, gaps, and process improvement opportunities within overpayment workflows and payroll operations

  • Assist in preparing documentation and standard operating procedures for overpayment and payroll processes

  • Contribute to reporting and tracking efforts using Excel and other tools to support analysis and operational insights

  • Serve as an intermediary to resolve disputes and support settlement processes where applicable

Required Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of HR Operations, Accounting, Payroll, Payroll Tax support experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • Payroll operations experience with knowledge of how payroll is processed and how pay components are calculated

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve pay discrepancies

  • High attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing payroll data and transactions

  • Intermediate Excel skills (e.g., data analysis, formulas, reporting)

  • Experience with case management tools such as ServiceNow

  • Experience in collections or handling repayment scenarios is a plus

  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to clearly document findings and communicate with employees and stakeholders

  • Ability to work independently in a high-volume, process-driven environment while managing multiple cases

  • Experience partnering with HR, Legal, or other cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues
