Senior Manager, Commercial Lending Underwriting

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a senior leader with experience in Commercial Banking, Commercial Credit Underwriting, Corporate Banking, or Corporate Lending to lead and develop a team supporting commercial lending activities. Your role will be responsible for overseeing the analysis and underwriting of secured lending transactions, providing leadership, coaching, and performance management to the team, while serving as a key member of a client’s deal team to support sound credit decisions and risk management.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage and develop teams of individual contributors and managers in roles with moderate work complexity and risk in the Operations functional area
  • Work with more experienced management to develop and execute business strategies
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and risk control development within the Operations functional area
  • Develop and implement business unit strategies
  • Provide expertise for technical, operational and processing functions related to business unit
  • Determine appropriate strategy and actions of Operation management functional team to meet moderate to high risk deliverables
  • Interpret and develop policies and procedures for functions with moderate complexity within scope of responsibility across business lines or functional areas
  • Collaborate and influence all levels of professionals including more experienced managers
  • Lead team to achieve objectives
  • Engage and influence stakeholders, internal partners and peers associated with the function or affected by its outcomes
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Operations
  • Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy


Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Operations experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in Commercial Banking, Commercial Lending Underwriting, Corporate Banking, Corporate Lending, or Commercial Credit Underwriting is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in Corporate Credit Analysis, Corporate Credit Underwriting, Portfolio Management, Corporate/Company Financial Analysis, or Auto Dealer Financing will also be considered.
  • Strong background in credit risk assessment, financial statement analysis, borrower evaluation, and credit approval/recommendation processes.
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is preferred.
  • Has worked in Global Capability Center (GCC) / Offshoring set up in financial services industry, preferably with European / American institutions
  • 3+ years of People Management and/or Project Management experience. Must have handled team size of 20+ for at least 3 years, a strong advantage
  • Experience in building teams and transition management, required
  • Has led transformation projects and good understanding of Six Sigma, AI fundamentals and process mining technologies, preferred


Job Expectations:

  • Applicants must be amenable to work onsite, 5/Neo, BGC, Taguig City
  • Temporary hybrid work set-up, 4x onsite and 1x remote
  • Applicants must be amenable to work on mid-shift, 4:00 PM - 1:00 AM Manila time
  • Manage and develop a Secured Lending Underwriting team of individual contributors and managers in roles with moderate complexity and risk; Overall team size 20-25
  • Engage and influence stakeholders, internal partners, and peers associated with Secured Lending Underwriting functional area or who are affected by its outcomes
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and risk control development within Secured Lending Underwriting functional area
  • Determine appropriate strategy and actions of a Secured Lending Underwriting team to meet moderate to high-risk deliverables
  • Interpret and develop policies and procedures for operations with moderate complexity within scope of responsibility
  • Collaborate with and influence all levels of professionals, including experienced managers, as well interact directly with external customers and line of business stakeholders in the US
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Secured Lending Underwriting
  • Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy
  • Oversee / supervise allied functions such as Financial Spreading, Collateral Management leveraging lending domain expertise
