Technology Director Lifecycle Management

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Technology Director to lead Lifecycle Management managing end-to-end lifecycle mitigation of infrastructure & platforms storage, compute, & virtualization transitions, with direct accountability for EOL mitigation, workload repositioning, & capacity optimization.  Will have accountability for defining and executing the enterprise strategy to eliminate unsupported technologies across the environment. This role leads large scale, multi-year remediation initiatives that reduce operational and cyber risk, strengthen platform resilience, and ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.

The Technology Director will lead a team of Senior and Principal Engineers, Engineering Managers and third-party SMEs to exit EOL and VEoS infrastructure platforms from Heritage and NextGen data centers.  The team will identify, plan, and execute evacuations spanning OS, ESX, VXRail, and Storage to mitigate EOL/VEoS exposure.  Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills are required for interactions across the organization spanning Executives, Engineers, Application Managers and CIO leads in CIO Sector teams, Application Development, Cyber Security, & Compute Engineering and Operations.  Horizontal alignment and coordination across CIO Organizations/Lines of Business, Cyber Security, Compute, Network, Storage and Third Parties is essential and required.  The selected candidate will have deep vertical expertise in Compute, Cyber and Network as well as efficiencies with public cloud technologies.  Detailed assessment of the legacy application portfolio will be completed in collaboration with the Horizontal functions as the exit plans are defined and finalized.  The team will plan and execute the exits with precision and no unplanned business interruption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the technology lifecycle management strategy and roadmap
  • Govern the full lifecycle of hardware, software, SaaS platforms, and technology assets
  • Partner with business and technology leaders to evaluate, select, and optimize technology investments
  • Drive asset, licensing, vendor, and cost-management practices to maximize ROI
  • Lead lifecycle planning for upgrades, refreshes, modernization initiatives, and end-of-life transitions
  • Establish governance standards, automation, reporting, and compliance controls across the technology portfolio
  • Build and lead high-performing teams responsible for lifecycle operations and continuous improvement
  • Define and Own lifecycle execution across platforms. Lead lifecycle transitions for storage (PowerFlex → PowerMax), compute, and virtualization environments.
  • Drive EOL/VEoS mitigation through workload repositioning. Execute evacuation of workloads from ESX & other aging platforms.
  • Engineer capacity-aware workload placement. Identify and establish new clusters within existing network segments to enable seamless migration (HCX / vMotion) and avoid IP readdressing.
  • Define mitigation strategies, apply to applications, lead cutovers
  • Define mitigation strategy: Swing active workload to backup site while primary site is migrated, lift/shift, physical to virtual, virtual to physical
  • Data replication: initial synch and ongoing deltas/changes maintained until cutover
  • Define the multiple data mitigation strategies and use cases: database, object, NAS, backup, unstructured user data

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 10+ years of large-scale enterprise data center and/or application exit experience
  • 4+ years of direct management experience leading in a data center organization
  • 4+ years of management or leadership experience

Desired Qualifications

  • 10+ years of Infrastructure Services experience (compute, network, storage, firewall)
  • 10+ years leadership in a hosting environment, especially in a large financial institution
  • Proven track record of success leading complex DC exit or similar initiatives for large financial services firms
  • Infrastructure Services experience (compute, network, storage, firewall)
  • Effective communication of complex topics to customers and/or business executives
  • Technology lifecycle management and roadmap planning expertise
  • Vendor, contract, and licensing management experience
  • Financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimization experience
  • Cloud platform knowledge (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Risk, compliance, and technology governance experience
  • Experience driving automation and operational excellence initiatives
  • Strong executive communication, change management, and influence skills
