  • Wells Fargo is seeking a Software Engineering Senior Manager.
  • This role is designed for a proven technology transformation leader with a demonstrated track record of leading large-scale modernization initiatives, platform transformations, operational excellence and governance programs, and organizational change across complex enterprise environments.
  • We are seeking an experienced leader who has successfully transformed traditional support and engineering organizations into modern, platform-oriented, reliability-focused, and automation-driven teams. This individual must be capable of influencing senior executives, driving execution with urgency, and accelerating adoption of AI-enabled and platform-centric ways of working.
  • The Senior Manager will lead a critical Platform Transformation organization responsible for Production Services, Platform Support, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Vulnerability Management, Automation, and Agentic AI adoption across strategic technology platforms. Success requires strong people leadership, executive presence, operational discipline, and a proven ability to translate strategy into measurable business outcomes.
  • The ideal candidate combines transformation leadership, platform engineering expertise, AI adoption experience, operational excellence, and change management capabilities. They possess a strong execution mindset, are comfortable leading through ambiguity, and have a demonstrated history of delivering complex modernization initiatives from strategy through implementation.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team or teams of experienced engineers and engineering managers in roles with moderate complexity and risk, responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technology
  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release
  • Partner with, engage and influence architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture and enable application migration paths to target architecture; for example cloud readiness, application modernization, data strategy
  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving escalated resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards
  • Determine appropriate strategy and actions to act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to meet moderate to high risk deliverables and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement
  • Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed
  • Interpret, develop and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk
  • Collaborate with, partner with and influence Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices
  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources to ensure commitments are met and align with strategic objectives in technology engineering
  • Hire, build and guide a culture of talent development to have the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for product areas and products to meet business objectives and strategy, as well as conduct performance management for engineers and managers


Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience

  • Proven success leading large engineering and operations organizations through transformational change and modernization.
  • Demonstrated experience building platform-centric, engineering-led support and operational models.
  • Strong expertise in Production Services, Reliability Engineering, Platform Support, Incident Management, Vulnerability Management, and Technology Operations.
  • Experience driving enterprise adoption of Automation, GenAI, and Agentic AI capabilities.
  • Ability to translate strategic vision into execution plans, measurable outcomes, and sustained business value.
  • Exceptional execution discipline with a strong bias toward action, accountability, and results.
  • Proven ability to balance strategic priorities with day-to-day operational excellence and service stability.
  • Strong talent leadership capabilities with a track record of building, developing, and retaining high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technology issues and drive informed decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity, navigate competing priorities, and deliver results in a highly matrixed environment.

Job Expectations:

  • Lead and manage a large organization responsible for Platform Transformation, Production Services, Platform Support, Reliability Engineering, Automation, Vulnerability Management, and Agentic AI capabilities.
  • Drive enterprise platform modernization initiatives focused on reliability, scalability, observability, resiliency, automation, cloud adoption, and operational excellence.
  • Transform traditional application support organizations into engineering-led, platform-focused operating models that improve service quality, efficiency, and customer experience.
  • Establish and mature Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices including service health measurement, reliability engineering, observability, capacity management, resiliency testing, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead major incident management, production stability, service restoration, problem management, and operational readiness efforts across critical technology platforms.
  • Drive adoption of automation, AI-enabled capabilities, and Agentic AI solutions to reduce manual effort, accelerate issue resolution, improve operational efficiency, and increase engineering productivity.
  • Partner with Application Development, Cyber Security, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Architecture, and Product teams to deliver platform transformation objectives.
  • Oversee vulnerability remediation programs and technology risk reduction initiatives by ensuring timely detection, prioritization, remediation, validation, and closure of platform vulnerabilities.
  • Translate executive vision and strategic priorities into actionable roadmaps, measurable outcomes, governance practices, and execution plans.
  • Establish performance metrics, operational dashboards, accountability mechanisms, and executive reporting routines that drive transparency and results.
  • Lead large-scale modernization programs across cloud, container, platform, and emerging technology environments while ensuring production readiness and operational sustainability.
  • Influence technology strategy, engineering standards, platform governance, operational practices, and enterprise transformation initiatives.
  • Identify organizational barriers, dependencies, risks, and execution challenges and proactively drive timely resolution.
  • Manage allocation of people, financial resources, and technology investments to align with business priorities and strategic objectives.
  • Develop and foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, ownership, innovation, continuous improvement, and talent development.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop managers, technical leaders, and future transformation leaders across the organization.
  • Provide strategic guidance to executive leadership on platform modernization, operational excellence, reliability engineering, automation, AI adoption, and technology transformation initiatives.
