Technology Director – COO Document Processing Automation

About this role:

The COO Technology group provides technology services for the Chief Operating Office. This includes operations, control executives, strategic execution, business continuity and resiliency, data solutions and services, regulatory relations, customer experience, enterprise shared services, supply chain management, and the corporate properties group. COO Technology provides technology solutions and manages application portfolios for these groups to support modernization and optimization.

Within COO Technology we are seeking a Technology Director to lead our enterprise-wide initiatives in Document processing automation initiatives to tap into the power of GenAI and IDOCS (Wells Fargo internal platform) to create efficiencies by automating end to end document processing. This critical leadership role will be instrumental in transforming our operational landscape by leveraging advanced AI and automation capabilities. The executive will drive the creation of document automation pipelines that capture deep business context and intelligence, enabling significant reductions in manual activities, enhanced efficiencies, and proactive risk management through control automation.

In this role, you will:

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the strategic roadmap for using technology solutions to streamline and automate Wells Fargo Operation business domains using automation capabilities and GenAI, aligning with overall business objectives and technology strategy
  • Document processing automation Development: Lead the design, development, and deployment of Wells Fargo Process-Specific Document automation pipelines. This includes leveraging existing IDOCS capabilities and standard operating procedures to build comprehensive solutions that start with inserting the solution at the point of entry of documents into Wells Fargo, automated classification, extraction and validation of the content and taking the extracted fields and inserting it into source systems, applying business rules making it a straight through processing
  • Intelligent Automation & Agentic AI: Drive the adoption and implementation of intelligent automation and agentic AI solutions, utilize the document automation pipelines, design, and execute automation opportunities that significantly reduce manual effort and increase operational efficiencies
  • Software Industry Trends: Exhibit proven subject matter expertise in software industry trends, including Document capture, Document extraction, OCR, Robotics Process Automation, foundational models/multi-modal, computer vision, autonomous systems, recommender systems, ML/deep learning, and cloud-based development
  • Risk Management & Control Automation: Oversee the strategy and execution of control automation initiatives. Utilize operational risk events and data analytics to prioritize and implement automated controls, enhancing the bank's risk posture and ensuring compliance
  • Technology & Innovation: Evaluate, select, and integrate cutting-edge AI, machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and automation technologies to build robust and scalable solutions. Foster a culture of continuous innovation and experimentation
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with business leaders, operations teams, enterprise architecture, data science, and other technology groups to identify high-impact use cases, gather requirements, and ensure successful solution delivery and adoption
  • Change Management: Demonstrated expertise in managing and implementing technical systems, implementing streamlined end-to-end processes, and driving large-scale change management initiatives
  • Team Leadership & Development: Build, mentor, and lead high-performing teams of engineers, data scientists, process architects, and automation specialists. Foster a collaborative and results-driven environment
  • Governance & Standards: Establish and enforce best practices, governance frameworks, and architectural standards for process mapping, cognitive intelligence development, and automation deployment
  • Performance Measurement: Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track the effectiveness and business impact of cognitive intelligence and automation initiatives, reporting progress to senior leadership
  • Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy


Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 10+ years of experience leading large-scale digital transformation and automation
  • 4+ years of management or leadership experience
  • 1+ years of experience, designing and implementing GenAI capabilities and solutions
  • 1+ years of experience with implementing & managing Document Management Systems


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in data pipeline creation and automation
  • Experience in IDOCS (Wells Fargo specific document processing capability). Demonstrate experience in designing and developing solutions using IDOCS capability
  • Demonstrated expertise in Document capture, Document extraction, Document Classification, Validation, Translation and OCR, Robotics Process Automation, foundational models/multi-modal, ML/deep learning, and cloud-based development
  • Deep understanding of artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, and robotic process automation (RPA) technologies
  • Proven track record of developing and deploying AI-driven solutions that deliver measurable business value
  • Strong experience in operational risk management and the application of technology to enhance control environments
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience with enterprise-level process intelligence platforms and knowledge representation systems
  • Familiarity with financial services regulations and compliance requirements
  • Experience in building and leading agile development teams
  • Certifications in process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma)


Job Expectations:

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$215,000.00 - $355,000.00
