About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer


In this role, you will:

  • Lead moderately complex initiatives and deliverables within technical domain environments
  • Contribute to large scale planning of strategies
  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs associated with technology domain, including upgrades and deployments
  • Review moderately complex technical challenges that require an in-depth evaluation of technologies and procedures
  • Resolve moderately complex issues and lead a team to meet existing client needs or potential new clients needs while leveraging solid understanding of the function, policies, procedures, or compliance requirements
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and mid-level managers to resolve technical challenges and achieve goals
  • Lead projects and act as an escalation point, provide guidance and direction to less experienced staff


Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Key Responsibilities

Tableau Development & Optimization

  • Design and develop high‑performance Tableau dashboards optimized for scale, concurrency, and responsiveness
  • Deeply optimize Tableau workbooks, extracts, data sources, filters, and calculations
  • Apply advanced Tableau performance techniques including:
    • Extract vs live optimization
    • Context filters, LOD expressions, table calcs tuning
    • Workbook, dashboard, and query performance analysis

Performance Monitoring & Analysis

  • Analyze and correlate Tableau performance metrics including:
    • Query execution time
    • Workbook load time
    • Extract refresh duration
    • User concurrency and resource utilization
  • Pull and synthesize performance statistics from observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana
  • Build performance dashboards and reports that:
    • Track trends over time
    • Identify regressions and hotspots
    • Support root‑cause analysis

Cross‑Platform Collaboration

  • Partner with data engineering, platform, and infrastructure teams to diagnose performance issues across the stack
  • Connect Tableau performance insights to:
    • Data platform behavior
    • Query design and data models
    • Infrastructure and compute constraints
  • Recommend and drive remediation actions based on evidence and metrics

Governance & Standards

  • Establish and enforce Tableau performance and design standards
  • Contribute to best practices for:
    • Certified data sources
    • Scalable dashboard design
    • Self‑service analytics with guardrails
  • Document performance findings, tuning approaches, and standards for broader adoption

Required Skills & Experience

Tableau Expertise

  • Extensive hands‑on experience with:
    • Tableau Desktop
    • Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud
  • Proven track record in performance tuning enterprise‑scale Tableau environments
  • Strong experience analyzing Tableau logs, performance recordings, and admin views

Performance & Observability

  • Experience analyzing metrics and logs from Grafana or similar monitoring platforms
  • Ability to pull together insights from multiple sources to tell a coherent performance story
  • Experience defining and tracking SLAs / SLOs for analytics performance

Data & Query Skills

  • Advanced SQL skills with a strong focus on query optimization
  • Solid understanding of:
    • Data modeling for analytics
    • Impact of data volume, granularity, and joins on performance
