Senior Software Engineer - Power BI, SSIS and SQL Server

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer

In this role, you will:

  • Lead moderately complex initiatives and deliverables within technical domain environments

  • Contribute to large scale planning of strategies

  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs associated with technology domain, including upgrades and deployments

  • Review moderately complex technical challenges that require an in-depth evaluation of technologies and procedures

  • Resolve moderately complex issues and lead a team to meet existing client needs or potential new clients needs while leveraging solid understanding of the function, policies, procedures, or compliance requirements

  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and mid-level managers to resolve technical challenges and achieve goals

  • Lead projects and act as an escalation point, provide guidance and direction to less experienced staff


Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in software/data engineering, including full SDLC (Systems Development Life Cycle) and Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban)
• 5+ years of experience with SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services), including:

  • Designing and developing ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Error handling, logging, and package deployment (SSISDB/File System)
  • Working with various data sources (flat files, databases, APIs, Excel)

• 5+ years of experience with Power BI, including:

  • Building enterprise-level reports, interactive dashboards, and performance optimization
  • Writing advanced DAX expressions (calculated columns, measures, time intelligence)
  • Data modeling (star schema, relationships, calculated tables)
  • Power BI Gateway configuration and scheduled refresh management
  • Row-Level Security (RLS) implementation

• 5+ years of experience with SQL Server, including:

  • Writing complex T-SQL queries (joins, CTEs, window functions, subqueries)
  • Performance tuning (query optimization, execution plans, index strategies and troubleshooting performance bottlenecks)
  • Writing and maintaining Stored Procedures, Functions, Views, and Triggers

• Strong experience in data warehousing concepts (star schema, snowflake schema, fact/dimension modeling)
• Experience in data transformation, cleansing, and validation processes
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills in resolving data and reporting issues
• Experience with version control and deployment strategies for BI and ETL solutions

• Experience with Azure Data Services (Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, Data Lake)
• Knowledge of Power BI Service administration, security (RLS), and workspace management
• Experience with DevOps/CI-CD pipelines for ETL and BI deployments
• Understanding of big data technologies and cloud-based data platforms
• Familiarity with Python or scripting for data processing is a plus
• Experience integrating Power BI with enterprise applications and APIs

Job Expectations:

• Lead complex data engineering and BI initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
• Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for building scalable data integration and business intelligence solutions
• Design, develop, test, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using SSIS and other data integration tools
• Develop, optimize, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI
• Review and analyze complex, large-scale data solutions supporting tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise data environments, and technical challenges involving multiple data sources
• Make decisions in developing standards and best practices for data architecture, data modeling, reporting, and visualization solutions
• Collaborate and consult with data architects, business stakeholders, and senior technology teams to resolve complex data issues and deliver insights
• Ensure data quality, governance, and performance tuning across data pipelines and reporting layers
• Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor in data engineering and reporting domains
