About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer


In this role, you will:

  • Lead moderately complex initiatives and deliverables within technical domain environments
  • Contribute to large scale planning of strategies
  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs associated with technology domain, including upgrades and deployments
  • Review moderately complex technical challenges that require an in-depth evaluation of technologies and procedures
  • Resolve moderately complex issues and lead a team to meet existing client needs or potential new clients needs while leveraging solid understanding of the function, policies, procedures, or compliance requirements
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and mid-level managers to resolve technical challenges and achieve goals
  • Lead projects and act as an escalation point, provide guidance and direction to less experienced staff


Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

Technical Skills

  • Core Java: Deep expertise in Java 11+, OOP principles, design patterns, concurrency, and memory management
  • Frameworks: Proficiency in Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Data JPA/Hibernate
  • Microservices: Design and development of microservices architecture using REST and/or gRPC
  • Build Tools: Maven, Gradle
  • Testing: JUnit 5, Mockito, integration testing, TDD/BDD practices
  • Databases: SQL (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis); query optimization
  • Messaging: Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar event-driven systems
  • Cloud/Containers: AWS/Azure/GCP services, Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift
  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar pipelines; familiarity with DevSecOps practices
  • API Design: RESTful API design, OpenAPI/Swagger documentation

Architecture & Design

  • Lead architectural discussions and propose scalable, maintainable solutions
  • Apply SOLID principles, DRY, and clean code practices
  • Conduct and participate in design/code reviews
  • Define and enforce coding standards across the team

Delivery & Execution

  • Independently own and deliver features end-to-end with minimal supervision
  • Break down complex requirements into actionable tasks
  • Estimate accurately and meet sprint commitments
  • Proactively identify risks and blockers early

Security & Compliance

  • Write secure code; awareness of OWASP Top 10
  • Work with security scan tools (Checkmarx, BlackDuck, SonarQube)
  • Remediate vulnerabilities within SLA timelines

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers
  • Work closely with product owners, architects, and QA teams
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Champion Agile/Scrum ceremonies and best practices

Job Expectations:

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Equivalent practical experience considered in lieu of formal degree

Experience

  • 5–10+ years of professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on Java development (Java 8/11/17+)
  • 3+ years building and deploying microservices in production environments
  • 2+ years working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • 2+ years experience in Agile/Scrum delivery teams

Technical Requirements

  • Strong command of Core Java — multithreading, JVM internals, garbage collection, generics
  • Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the broader Spring ecosystem
  • Proficiency in RESTful API design and development
  • Experience with relational databases (SQL, query optimization, indexing) and ORM frameworks (Hibernate/JPA)
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture using Kafka or similar messaging platforms
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes/OpenShift)
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.)
  • Proficiency with version control using Git and branching strategies (GitFlow, trunk-based)
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests (JUnit, Mockito, TestContainers)

Security & Quality

  • Familiarity with OWASP Top 10 and secure coding practices
  • Experience working with static analysis tools: SonarQube, Checkmarx, or BlackDuck
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain code quality via peer reviews and test coverage

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with reactive programming (Spring WebFlux, Project Reactor)
  • Exposure to service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd)
  • Knowledge of OAuth2 / OpenID Connect / JWT for API security
  • Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra)
  • Contributions to open-source projects or technical communities
  • Financial services / regulated industry background
