Lead Data Engineer

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Data Engineer in the Technology Analytics team. This lead engineer will combine hands-on data engineering with advanced analytics to drive operational insights for senior technology leadership. This engineer will build and optimize pipelines, integrate data from diverse systems, design scalable models and schemas, and strengthen our transition from descriptive reporting to predictive and prescriptive analytics. This role is central to a new operating model focused on operational excellence, requiring strong data fluency, exceptional SQL skills, and the ability to communicate insights that influence leadership decisions.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, develop, and run tooling to discover problems in data and applications and report the issues to engineering and product leadership

  • Review and analyze complex software enhancement initiatives for business, operational or technical improvements that require in depth evaluation of multiple factors including intangibles or unprecedented factors

  • Make decisions in complex and multi-faceted data engineering situations requiring understanding of software package options and programming language and compliance requirements that influence and lead Technology to meet deliverables and drive organizational change

  • Create standardized feature transformation pipelines and a common feature store with strong lineage, dictionary and high availability for models

  • Implement robust data modeling (dimensional, data vault, or canonical models)

  • Enforce data quality, lineage, and observability using standardized metrics, validation rules, and monitoring dashboards.

  • Document patterns, runbooks, and best practices, and provide enablement through workshops and code examples


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Database Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 5+ years of Data Engineering experience

  • 5+ years of experience designing ETL(SSIS/WF Developed SparkFlow/ADF), DBMS(SQL Server/Azure SQL/Oracle/Teradata), Python(Programming language)

  • 5+ years of Advanced T-SQL(complex queries, stored procedures, functions, index)


Desired Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of Performance Tuning and Optimization experience

  • 2+ years of experience with Agile methodologies

  • 1+ years of experience using IDP, ServiceNow, EPL-X Pipeline (Git-SaaS, Git Actions, IDP, Artifactory, Harness)

  • ETL orchestrator or scheduler (Autosys) experience

  • Extensive understanding of Liquibase, NoBuild, Python

  • Automated Testing with Hyper Execute/Octane/Robot Framework experience

  • Advanced development skills that include comprehensive testing and utilization of AI tools.

  • Ability to leverage AI agents for code generation, debugging, refactoring, and automation of software development workflows.

  • Understanding with Databricks (Apache Spark, Delta Lake, and workflows) for building scalable data pipelines and applications.

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Technical application support experience

  • Ability to act as a liaison between the client area and technical organization

  • Effective organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills

Job Expectations:

  • Can both work quickly and independently to meet required sprint objectives and/or lead projects and supports skill development within team

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$119,000.00 - $206,000.00
