Engineering Manager – Google Cloud Platform

About this role:

  • Wells Fargo is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead cloud engineering and software delivery teams focused on Python, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and cloud-native application development.
  • This role will provide technical and people leadership for engineering teams delivering scalable, secure, resilient, and enterprise-ready technology solutions. The manager will help drive engineering execution, architecture alignment, DevOps adoption, security and compliance, and talent development while partnering closely with Product Management, Architecture, DevOps, QA, and business stakeholders.
  • The role requires a balance of delivery ownership, engineering discipline, stakeholder management, and team development, with a focus on building high-performing teams and delivering business-critical modernization outcomes.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of individual contributor engineer roles with low to moderate complexity and less experienced managers who are responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technology
  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release
  • Engage with architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture to enable application migration paths to target architecture; for example, cloud readiness, application modernization and data strategy
  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards
  • Act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to make decisions and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement culture
  • Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed
  • Interpret, develop, and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with low to moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk
  • Collaborate and consult with the Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices
  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for technology engineering including career development and performance management for engineers and managers on the team
  • Hire, mentor and guide talent development of direct reports to build the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for the supported product areas/products


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 2+ years of Leadership experience


Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Python and modern software engineering practices.
  • Experience architecting, designing, and delivering enterprise-scale solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, microservices, REST APIs, distributed systems, event-driven design, and API-first engineering.
  • Experience with GCP services such as Cloud Run, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, and Cloud SQL.
  • Experience delivering Data Analytics, AI/ML, Generative AI, cloud migration, or application modernization programs.
  • Experience leading Agile engineering teams and delivering large-scale enterprise applications.
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps, release management, Infrastructure as Code, Terraform, automation, and deployment practices.
  • Experience with GitHub, GitLab, or other enterprise software delivery platforms.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, container orchestration, and cloud infrastructure automation.
  • Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering practices, production support, observability, monitoring, logging, incident response, and operational excellence.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Google Cloud Monitoring, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Splunk, or Datadog.
  • Demonstrated experience with hiring, performance management, coaching, talent development, and building high-performing engineering teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, influencing, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to translate business objectives into technology execution plans and measurable engineering outcomes.
  • Experience leading globally distributed or matrixed engineering teams.
  • Google Cloud certification such as Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Cloud Developer, or equivalent cloud certification.

  • Ability to promote engineering excellence through automation, DevOps, observability, secure engineering practices, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to build and sustain an inclusive, accountable, and high-performing engineering culture.
  • Ability to support production stability, incident response, risk remediation, and operational readiness for business-critical applications.
  • Ability to work across global teams and partner effectively with stakeholders across time zones.
