Lead Credit Risk Officer | Corporate Risk

About This Role

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Credit Risk Officer.  The Lead Credit Risk Officer (P4) is a senior individual contributor on the Transaction Risk team responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing data-driven risk strategies that support real-time transaction decisioning. This role leverages data, analytics, and quantitative techniques to manage risk across millions of transactions each month while balancing customer experience, fraud prevention, and business objectives.

This role combines quantitative analysis, risk strategy development, and technical problem-solving to improve decision quality and portfolio performance. The successful candidate will leverage large datasets, advanced analytics, automation, and AI/ML techniques to identify emerging risks, enhance decisioning strategies, and deliver measurable business outcomes.

The position offers an opportunity to support the modernization of transaction risk capabilities through cloud transformation initiatives, enhanced analytics, and evolving decisioning technologies while helping ensure effective risk management across a growing portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and optimize transaction risk strategies to improve decision quality, portfolio performance, and customer outcomes.

  • Analyze transaction, customer, and portfolio data to identify emerging risks, evaluate strategy performance, and recommend enhancements.

  • Lead complex analytical initiatives, including strategy design, performance analysis, root-cause investigations, and risk assessments.

  • Build scalable analytical solutions using SAS, SQL, Python, R, or other tools to support risk decisioning, monitoring, and operational efficiency.

  • Evaluate new data sources, analytical techniques, and decisioning approaches to strengthen risk detection and strategy effectiveness.

  • Design and maintain monitoring and reporting frameworks to assess strategy performance and identify emerging trends.

  • Partner with business, technology, model governance, and control teams to implement, maintain, and enhance risk strategies.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to analysts while promoting analytical rigor and best practices.

In This Role, You Will

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives that influence transaction risk strategy, decisioning performance, and customer outcomes.

  • Apply quantitative analysis and sound judgment to solve complex business problems and support risk-based decisions.

  • Support the evolution of risk capabilities through analytics, automation, data innovation, and platform modernization efforts.

  • Communicate analytical findings and recommendations to senior leaders and key stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with business partners, Model Governance, Audit, Legal, Compliance, and regulators to support effective risk management and strategy execution.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Credit Risk experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience applying analytical techniques, statistical analysis, anomaly detection, modeling, and risk reporting in a financial services environment.

  • 5+ years of experience using SQL, SAS, Python, R, or similar data management and analytics tools; familiarity with GitHub, VS Code, GCP or cloud-based analytical platforms is a plus.

  • Experience developing, implementing, monitoring, or supporting risk strategies, predictive models, or analytical decisioning solutions.

  • Experience working with large, complex datasets and translating analytical findings into business recommendations.

  • Experience operating within Model Risk Management (MRM), model governance, or similar risk management frameworks.

  • Knowledge of transaction risk, fraud risk, customer decisioning, portfolio management, or risk optimization techniques.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence senior leaders and present complex analytical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience driving automation, process improvement, and analytical modernization initiatives.

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$139,000.00 - $260,000.00
