Principal Engineer - App and Web Middleware

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Infrastructure Engineer – Application & Web Server Platform to serve as the senior technical leader responsible for the strategy, architecture, engineering standards, automation, and lifecycle management of the enterprise application and web server platform ecosystem.

This role will lead the transformation of platform delivery through automation, standardization, self-service capabilities, and platform engineering best practices. The Principal Engineer will define and govern enterprise solutions supporting Apache Tomcat, Apache HTTP Server, IBM WebSphere Liberty, and NGINX, while enabling application teams to rapidly deploy and manage workloads through highly automated, secure, and scalable platform services.

The successful candidate will work closely with Enterprise Architecture, Cybersecurity, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, and Application Development organizations to build a modern, self-service, platform-as-a-product operating model.


In this role, you will:

  • Define the long-term strategy, architecture, and technical roadmap for enterprise application and web server platforms
  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
  • Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership


Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • Expert knowledge of Linux and enterprise middleware architectures
  • Significant experience designing automated build, release, packaging, and deployment solutions
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform and Ansible
  • Experience with enterprise CI/CD platforms including Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or GitLab
  • Experience with artifact management platforms such as Artifactory
  • Strong scripting and automation experience using Python, Bash, or PowerShell


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, and cloud-native hosting platforms
  • Knowledge of observability, monitoring, logging, and SRE practices
  • Strong architecture, governance, and enterprise-scale design experience
  • Industry certifications in Cloud, DevOps, Linux, Security, or Architecture disciplines
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$159,000.00 - $305,000.00
