About this role:

  • Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer.
  • We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Technology Lead to drive the architecture, development, and modernization of enterprise platforms using Java, Spring Boot, React, Kafka, Camunda, Microservices, and Cloud-native technologies.
  • The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership capabilities, partnering with business stakeholders, mentoring engineering teams, driving architectural decisions, and accelerating software delivery through AI-powered engineering practices and Generative AI solutions.
     

In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
  • Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large-scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines
  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs
  • Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors
  • Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
  • Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals
  • Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, with strong expertise in designing and delivering enterprise-scale applications and platforms, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Additional Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience building scalable enterprise applications using Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and distributed systems.
  • Strong expertise in Microservices Architecture, API design, integration patterns, resiliency, observability, and secure application development.
  • Hands-on experience building and operating cloud-native applications on AWS, Azure, GCP, PCF, OpenShift, or Kubernetes.
  • 4+ years of experience with ReactJS and modern frontend development frameworks.
  • 2+ years of experience with Camunda or similar BPM/Workflow platforms.
  • Strong experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with MongoDB, relational databases, and microfrontend architectures.
  • Experience with CI/CD and DevSecOps practices using Jenkins, Harness, GitHub Actions, Gradle, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams, architecture reviews, and large-scale technology initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, mentoring, and leadership skills.
  • AI / GenAI Requirements (Mandatory)
  • Practical experience using GitHub Copilot, Devin, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar AI-assisted development tools in software delivery
  • Hands-on experience delivering Generative AI solutions, including LLMs, Prompt Engineering, RAG, AI Agents, and orchestration frameworks
  • Demonstrated success driving AI adoption and improving SDLC productivity through AI-enabled engineering practices.
  • Understanding of Responsible AI, AI governance, and enterprise security considerations.

Desired Qualifications

  • Domain experience in Banking, Financial Services, Operations, Workflow Automation, Loan Servicing, or related enterprise platforms.
