About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer (Data) within Technology, aligned to the Enterprise Functions Technology Group. This role sits within the Workplace Technology Instrumentation Engineering Team, which is building a next‑generation data platform to serve as the foundational data layer enabling Wells Fargo’s transformation into a product‑centric organization.
The Lead Software Engineer (Data) plays a critical role in the hands-on transformation of our current SQL Server implementation to Databricks. This role enables advanced analytics, data governance, and streamlined solutions for onboarding and managing data.
In this role, you will:
Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines
Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs
Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors
Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals
Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
3+ years of Databricks experience
3+ years of Python experience
3+ years of SQL experience
Desired Qualifications:
Able to architect solutions that leverage modern data platforms and reporting/BI platforms
Experience with migrating from SQL Server to Databricks, Snowflake, or other modern data platforms
Able to work with international teams
Expertise in public (Azure) and private cloud technologies
Understanding of advanced data management and data cloud technologies
Understanding and implementation of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies
Experience in data architecture, including data modeling, data pipelines, and governance frameworks.

Ability to travel up to 5% of the time
