Lead Software Engineer

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join the Onboarding Technology Team within the Cards and Personal Loans Organization.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact

  • Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large-scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines

  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs

  • Review and analyse complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors

  • Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives

  • Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals

  • Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 5 + years of J2EE development experience

  • 5 + years of Microservices experience with RestAPIs

  • 5+ years of experience delivering complex enterprise-wide information technology solution.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience with distributed streaming and event‑driven architectures, using technologies such as Kafka or similar real‑time data processing frameworks

  • Experience with either Cloud & Container technologies: AKS/Azure/OCP/K8s

  • Experience in setting up and using Observability/Monitoring tools: Elastic, Kibana, Grafana, AppDynamics, Kafka, Big Panda, Splunk 

  • Engineering and development experience with middleware messaging platforms including Kafka

  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is important for packaging and deploying applications in containers and orchestrating them across multiple machines 

  • Experience with one or more CI/CD Pipeline (GitHub, Jenkins), Release management, and Automation tools: Gradle, Maven, Git 

  • Experience with GenAI technologies (LLMs, embeddings, vector stores, prompt engineering), AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Codex), and agentic AI solutions to enhance analytics, automation, and business capabilities.

  • Experience with Agile Scrum (Daily Standup, Sprint Planning and Sprint Retrospective meetings) 

  • Knowledge of database technologies: MongoDB, SQL/No SQL DB

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • BS/BA degree or higher in science or technology

Expectations:

  • Lead teams while partnering with global stakeholders across multiple time zones

  • Drive a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

  • Proficiency in using GitHub Actions and other version control systems is essential for managing code and deployments 

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential for working with developers, operations teams, and other stakeholders 

  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or visa transfer
