Senior Lead Artificial Intelligence Solutions Consultant

  • Product Management
  • Full time
  • R-568851

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking an Artificial Intelligence Solutions Director to lead the team that puts artificial intelligence to work in payments. This role sits at the forefront of AI and data for payments, working at the intersection of rapid advances in artificial intelligence and innovation in payments, liquidity, and digital currencies, and it is accountable for turning that intersection into working capability rather than experimentation.

The team operates on a forward deployed model. Engineers and solution leads embed directly with the businesses they serve, work alongside product, operations, and technology partners to understand the problem first-hand, and build and ship the solution with them. This Director sets the standard for that model: hiring and developing forward deployed engineers, shaping how the team engages, and holding the bar on what gets built and how quickly it reaches production.

This is a transformational role. We are looking for a transformational leader with a growth mindset: someone who has built and led technical teams close to the business, is comfortable with ambiguity and rapid iteration, and is more interested in changing how the work gets done than in managing it as it is.

In this role, you will:

  • Embed with payments, liquidity, and digital currency teams to identify high-value artificial intelligence opportunities and translate business problems into solutions that can be built

  • Lead artificial intelligence initiatives end to end, including opportunity framing, scoping, technical design, prototyping, testing, deployment, monitoring, documentation, and handover

  • Write production code and build on enterprise artificial intelligence, data, and cloud platforms using large structured and unstructured datasets

  • Design and deploy generative artificial intelligence and agentic solutions, including retrieval, evaluation, human-in-the-loop workflows, and appropriate safeguards

  • Assess technological readiness, data availability, delivery dependencies, and resources required to execute proposed solutions

  • Prototype quickly with users, incorporate feedback, and harden successful concepts into reliable, production-quality capabilities

  • Partner with senior business leaders, engineers, data teams, risk partners, and control functions to resolve complex issues and keep delivery on track

  • Advise senior leaders on artificial intelligence strategy, solution options, tradeoffs, and the practical path from concept to implementation

  • Build a pipeline of future artificial intelligence opportunities aligned with business priorities and expected value

  • Mentor engineers and practitioners, set technical direction on assigned projects, and create reusable patterns, reference implementations, and documentation that improve delivery across the broader team

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Artificial Intelligence Solutions experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience as a forward deployed engineer, solution engineer, artificial intelligence engineer, or in a comparable hands-on role embedded with business teams to deliver working software

  • Strong software and data engineering fundamentals, including production coding experience in Python, TypeScript, or comparable languages

  • Hands-on experience building and deploying generative artificial intelligence and large language model solutions in production, including prompt engineering, retrieval, evaluation, and agentic patterns

  • Experience working with modern cloud and data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud

  • A track record of independently leading complex projects, breaking down ambiguous problems, making sound design decisions, and remaining accountable for results

  • Strong business orientation, including the ability to understand a commercial problem, assess the opportunity, and design toward the intended outcome rather than the technology alone

  • Experience in payments, liquidity, transaction banking, digital currencies, or digital assets

  • Management consulting, client-facing delivery, or other experience influencing senior stakeholders while remaining close to execution

  • Ability to explain technical concepts, design decisions, risks, and tradeoffs clearly and credibly to senior non-technical stakeholders

  • Experience balancing rapid experimentation with enterprise requirements for testing, monitoring, model risk, data protection, and documentation

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor others and establish reusable technical patterns that improve team effectiveness

Job Expectations:

  • Operate as a hands-on transformational practitioner and maintain a growth mindset as artificial intelligence technologies and delivery approaches evolve

  • Spend meaningful time alongside the business teams you support; proximity to users and workflows is central to the forward deployed model

  • Balance speed and experimentation with the risk, control, compliance, and production standards expected of the bank

  • Stay current on developments in artificial intelligence, payments, liquidity, and digital currencies, and apply relevant advances to the work

  • Lead through influence across business, engineering, data, risk, and control partners while remaining accountable for delivery outcomes
