About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Technology Director to lead strategic transformation initiatives across Global Payments and Liquidity platforms.

This leader will define and execute the multi-year technology roadmap for next-generation payment processing, liquidity, settlement, servicing, and payment data platforms. The role requires a balance of deep payments domain expertise, technology leadership, engineering excellence, and large-scale program execution.

As a senior technology leader, you will drive platform modernization, lead complex transformation programs, influence technology strategy, champion AI-enabled engineering practices, and partner closely with business, operations, risk, compliance, and technology stakeholders to deliver enterprise-critical outcomes.


In this role, you will:

  • Manage a team of engineering managers and engineering leads
  • Focus on delivering commitments aligned to enterprise strategic priorities
  • Build support for strategies with business and technology leaders
  • Guide development of actionable roadmaps and plans
  • Identify opportunities and strategies for continuous improvement of software engineering practices
  • Provide oversight to software craftsmanship, security, availability, resilience, and scalability of solutions developed by the teams or third party providers
  • Identify financial management and strategic resourcing
  • Set risk management guidelines and partner with stakeholders to implement key risk initiatives
  • Develop strategies for hiring engineering talent
  • Lead implementation of projects and encourage engineering innovation
  • Collaborate and influence all levels of professionals including more experienced managers
  • Lead team to achieve objectives
  • Interface with external agencies, regulatory bodies or industry forums
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Technology Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy

Technology Strategy & Platform Leadership

  • Define and execute the long-term technology strategy and roadmap for Payments and Liquidity platforms.
  • Drive modernization toward cloud-enabled, API-first, and event-driven architectures built on modern engineering principles.
  • Establish architecture standards, engineering governance, and platform modernization objectives aligned with business priorities.
  • Lead technology investment planning, prioritization, and execution across multiple strategic initiatives.

Payments & Liquidity Transformation

  • Lead large-scale transformation initiatives across US Domestic and Cross-Border Payments, Liquidity, Payment Data, Settlement, and Servicing platforms.
  • Drive modernization of payment processing capabilities supporting Wires, ACH, RTP, Zelle, Cards, SWIFT, and ISO 20022.
  • Champion adoption of modern technologies including microservices, event-driven architecture, cloud platforms, platform engineering, and AI-assisted software delivery.
  • Ensure platforms support evolving business needs, regulatory requirements, resiliency goals, and future product expansion.

Business & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with senior leaders across Product, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Finance, and Technology organizations to align technology strategy with business objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on technology direction, investment priorities, modernization opportunities, and transformation strategy.
  • Communicate complex technology strategies to executive audiences while translating business priorities into actionable delivery roadmaps.
  • Influence enterprise architecture standards and technology decisions across Payments and Liquidity technology organizations.

Engineering Excellence & Delivery

  • Lead execution of complex technology programs with accountability for delivery quality, platform stability, risk management, and business outcomes.
  • Establish best practices for software engineering, architecture, resiliency, observability, security, scalability, and operational excellence.
  • Drive adoption of modern software delivery practices including CI/CD, DevSecOps, automation, cloud engineering, and AI-enabled development tools.
  • Ensure solutions meet stringent performance, availability, scalability, resiliency, and regulatory standards for 24x7 payment ecosystems.

Organizational & People Leadership

  • Build, develop, and lead high-performing engineering and technology teams across multiple product and platform areas.
  • Mentor engineering leaders, architects, and senior technologists while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive workforce strategy, leadership development, succession planning, and talent growth.
  • Manage technology investments, vendor partnerships, and resource allocation to support strategic objectives.

Risk, Control & Regulatory Leadership

  • Ensure technology platforms meet regulatory, audit, cybersecurity, and operational risk requirements.
  • Partner with risk and compliance organizations to proactively identify and mitigate technology risks.
  • Establish governance frameworks and controls supporting highly regulated payments and liquidity environments.
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations impacting domestic and cross-border payments.


Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 4+ years of management or leadership experience


Desired Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of management or leadership experience.
  • 10+ years of experience supporting Payments, Liquidity, Banking, or Financial Services technology organizations.
  • Deep expertise in US Domestic Payments and Cross-Border Payments, including Wires, ACH, RTP, Zelle, SWIFT, Cards, and ISO 20022.
  • 5+ years of experience leading modernization programs involving cloud platforms, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, APIs, and data-intensive applications.
  • 5+ years of experience delivering large-scale technology transformation initiatives and complex enterprise programs.
  • Strong technical foundation across Java, Kafka, MongoDB, Microservices, APIs, Cloud Technologies, Platform Engineering, and DevSecOps practices.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proven experience leading strategic Payments and Liquidity transformation initiatives within a large financial institution.
  • Strong understanding of payment lifecycle management, liquidity capabilities, settlement, reconciliation, exception processing, and servicing functions.
  • Experience building highly resilient, scalable, and mission-critical 24x7 payment platforms.
  • Knowledge of payment regulations and standards including ISO 20022, SWIFT, OFAC, Dodd-Frank, and related industry requirements.
  • Experience implementing AI-enabled engineering practices, platform automation, and intelligent operational workflows.
  • Proven track record of leading large engineering organizations and delivering enterprise-wide transformation programs.
  • Strong executive communication skills with experience presenting technology strategy and investment recommendations to senior leadership.
