Lead Software Engineer - Java Full Stack – React - Messaging - GenAI

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer

In this role, you will:

• Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
• Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines
• Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs
• Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors
• Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
• Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals
• Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including experience leading the design and delivery of enterprise applications.
• 4+ years in Java 21, Spring and microservices development.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, concurrency, multithreading, scalability, resilience and performance engineering.
• Hands-on experience with REST APIs and gRPC-based service design and integration.
• Hands-on experience with JMS concepts and messaging technologies such as Apache Kafka and Solace.

Desired Qualifications:

• Strong database development experience with Oracle, SQL and PL/SQL.
• Experience with distributed caching using Redis and Oracle Coherence, including database/cache sharing, synchronization and consistency techniques.
• Strong understanding and practical application of SOLID principles, enterprise integration patterns and software design patterns.
• Experience with automated testing, test automation frameworks and regression testing, including BDD/Cucumber and headless testing.
• Experience with Gradle, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, Docker and Kubernetes, Harness and GIT Hub actions.
• Strong hands-on experience developing modern web applications with React, JavaScript and TypeScript, including reusable component design, hooks, state management, routing, form handling and responsive user interfaces.
• Experience integrating React applications with REST and gRPC-backed services, including API client design, authentication and authorization, error handling, data transformation and asynchronous request management.
• Experience with React testing using tools such as Jest and React Testing Library, including unit, component, integration and regression automation.
• Knowledge of frontend performance optimization, accessibility, browser compatibility, secure coding, build tooling and deployment of production-grade React applications.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or an MCA/equivalent qualification.

• Knowledge of capital markets and securities, with experience in Investment Banking and/or Prime Brokerage considered an advantage.
• Practical experience with Generative AI, agent development and MCP server creation or integration.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Devin and GitHub Copilot within governed software delivery practices.
• Familiarity with Autosys, Harness and Linux/Unix scripting.
• Relevant certification in capital markets, cloud technologies, Java or software architecture.
• Fluency in English; proficiency in an additional regional language is beneficial.

• Coach engineers through design reviews, code reviews, testing strategy and production-readiness assessments.
